Document Window Issue on Mac Emulator

Post by jeffp »

My client reported a strange issue that I've never seen before. She's running our program on her Mac using the Windows emulator or Window 7. We've embedded your ViewerAX in our app and have it set for Multiple Document showing up as tabs across the top. When she has multiple documents open, she'll encounter situations when one of the documents will appear in a separate window on top of the rest of the editor. It's kind of like when you want to cascade or tile windows where you get a frame for each window in the main window. In her case, it's just one window. It's usually the document that was just opened, or just closed, or just clicked on from the document tab.

I've attached a screen shot of this to help explain it.

It's like every time there is change to a document, there needs to be some kind refresh toset all the document windows to the maximized state again.

Does this make any sense to you? It may be just a Mac thing since I've never seen it on a Windows box.

You say she's running it in an emulator, not a virtual machine (e.g. parallels or VMware) or bootcamp, right? In that case I suppose there's something buggy in the way it handles windows system calls and it wouldn't really be anything we could do much about.

What is the emulator? CrossOver?

If it's a virtual machine running true windows (or bootcamp), that might be a different matter.

Maybe it is a parallel. It's whatever Mac does to run Windows 7.

I got on her machine to look at it, and it's like each document has it's own window frame. When everything is fine, all the frames are maximized so you can't tell there are multiple frames, you just see the document tabs across the top.

But when this happens it's like one of the document window frames forgets to maximize itself and shows up on top of the rest of the view window. It's like when you are in Word or Excel and cascade the windows within the main app window, except in this case it's just one document window that does this.

It happens when you have at least one document already open. Then you open another document or close a documetn or even click a different document tab.

Are there any calls in the ViewerAX I can make that would force each document window contained in the overall VeiwerAX to its maximized state once I detect a change above?

Hi, Jeff.

Strange issue...
We will try to reproduce and fix it.
It occurs with end-user version of our PDF-Viewer or with ActiveX only?

I'm embedding the ViewerAX inside may application. It's not the end-user product.

Hi, Jeff.

I understand but can you ask your client - on this emulator our standalone PDF-Viewer works correctly or not? Thanks.
This additional information can be helpful for us..

Best
Regards.

She doesn't have your stand alone program. I'd have to install it and see.

Hi Jeff,

I'm sure you understand that we don't specifically support Mac... however, we will do the best we can to sort out what the problem is.

To do this, we really need to know specifically what emulator or virtual machine she is using. Without knowing this, there's just no way we can help.

We need to know if she is using CrossOver, Wine, Parallels, VMWare, or bootcamp running Windows 7 natively as a dual boot setup - or whatever else she is using to emulate or run Windows. We will try to reproduce the issue on a local machine (we have some MacBooks kicking around the office) but we can't do it until we have this information.

I understand. I'll start by getting some more info about her Mac, and then I'll have her install your Free PDF-XChange Viewer from you site to see if it has the same issues.

Thanks. If we get the information over the weekend we will attempt to reproduce the issue on Monday.

Don't be in a hurry. It might take a few days to get this info from my user. But thanks for working with me on this one.
