PDF-XChange Viewer Pro V3 - First feedback and questions

Post by Jeldij »

Good day,

I've just downloaded and installed PDF-XChange Viewer Pro V3 (PDF-XChange Editor V3)
My first feedback:

[*]The new version of the tool strikes me as a PDF editor, instead of a PDF viewer with editting features.
Also the name has been changed to PDF-XChange Editor
Some feedback on this would be appreciated. What is the goal of PDF-XChange Editor?

I'm surprised by the option "Document", "Launch Adobe Reader". Shouldn't PDF XChange Editor be able to handle this?
Why the option?

[*]Our goal is to completely replace Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Standard with PDF-XChange Viewer Pro (V3) for all our employees.
Is this feasible?

[*]I know Tracker Software does not release all features yet with the public beta, but the print option is grayed out.
Could you please let me know how to enable printing or state whether this is part of releasing the limited functionality?

[*]I can't find the option "Display PDF in Browser" / The preferences are limited in comparison with the previous version.
How does this V3 product handle PDF's in Browsers? Is this part of releasing the limited functionality?

[*]I'm interested in other people's feedback, findings, comments.
Is there a place on the forum where I can find those?

Thank you in advance!
Kind regards,
Jelte Dijkstra

Hello Jelte,

And thanks for your feedback! We do appreciate it, but due to the NDA - there probably won't me much comments here in the forums, as it's really easy to cross the line between feedback and discussing features :)

The new version of the tool strikes me as a PDF editor, instead of a PDF viewer with editting features.
Also the name has been changed to PDF-XChange Editor

As the new product we are working on is much more than a viewer now we've changed the name to PDF-XChange Editor. This is both to distinguish it from the current Viewer, and to also reduce the ambiguity in the names we currently use.

I'm surprised by the option "Document", "Launch Adobe Reader". Shouldn't PDF XChange Editor be able to handle this?
This is still a Beta version and alternative Viewers are a good option for the moment - so that you can easily compare e.g. the rendering. If you have our Viewer 2.5 installed as well it will also be listed in that menu.

Our goal is to completely replace Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Standard with PDF-XChange Viewer Pro (V3) for all our employees.
Besides some Adobe Specific security handlers - the PDF Editor will indeed offer pretty much everything else.

I know Tracker Software does not release all features yet with the public beta, but the print option is grayed out.
That is correct - printing is indeed not yet activated and will be available in a future beta version.

I can't find the option "Display PDF in Browser" / The preferences are limited in comparison with the previous version.
The current initial beta is to present the new features, and as such file associations and browser integration is not provided on purpose. You can expect the same seamless plug-in integration - with the new interface and features. As for other features that are currently available in the Viewer but not the Editor - they were mostly omitted so that the focus could be on the new ones and otherwise all features currently present will also be available int he Editor.

I'm interested in other people's feedback, findings, comments.
Looking forward to those myself as well but would encourage anyone to send those comments directly with an e-mail to support@pdf-xchange.com

Cheers,
Stefan
