Opening a PDF from SharePoint

Post by iainsimms »

when opening a PDf from SharePoint using it's HTTP address, all is good. However, when I come to save, it's trying to save to the temp files location. Error reads...

Error saving document to c:\documents and settings\...\localsettings\Termporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\... Error [IO Subsystem]: Invalid access mode. The document could not be saved. The file may be read-only, or another program/user may have it open....

This error is also seen when I try and open via a network (WebDav) path. When trying to Save as and pointing to a webdav location, it will lock up while trying to get a list of libraries.

Any thoughts?

Hello iainsimms,

Currently our Viewer can't save to HTTP:/ locations, and when downloading files from the SharePoint server it stores them in a temporary folder that has some restrictions on it.

You can of course use the "Save As" option in our Viewer and save the file locally in a folder with correct privileges (e.g. your Desktop) and then upload it from there to the SharePoint.

We are aware of this - and do have it in our list of ToDo features - so as soon as possible we will see to add support for working with SharePoint files directly.

Best,
Stefan

Do you have an estimate on when this capability will be enabled?
(Integration with Sharepoint)

I need to open a Word document from within Sharepoint and save it as a PDF to the same location within Sharepoint. Currently this is not possible....

Please enable the ability to also, when closing a file opened from a SharePoint library, to check the file in if it was checked out. This functionality was added to Adobe Acrobat XI (though not perfect, you can do better).

Using the 12/27/2012 version of the new Editor, I'm able to successfully open a PDF from SharePoint 2010 Enterprise document library that has checkout required; on clicking the PDF file name in the library, I get the dialog box "How would you like to open this file?" where you can choose to Check Out and Edit, selecting that option, opens the file in Editor. I can make edits, such as Signing. When I save the PDF, I'm presented with the WebDAV path back to the SharePoint library, and can successfully save the changed file to SharePoint. Great.

We also need that when you close the file, or select a button/menu, the file can be checked back in. If you haven't saved changes to the PDF and close it, you should get a dialog box with 2 radio buttons, one for save and close, the other for save, check in, and close.

If you need test environments for SharePoint, I highly recommend using cloudshare.com where you can spin up fully working SharePoint 2010 and 2013 environments in minutes. You will want to see how your product performs in environments where the line below in docicon.xml can vary in these 4 scenarios. (search on docicon.xm lpdf opendocuments for info)

Code: Select all

    <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="pdficon_small.png" OpenControl="AdobeAcrobat.OpenDocuments" />
    <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="pdficon_small.png" OpenControl="PdfFiles.OpenDocuments" />
    <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="pdficon_small.png" OpenControl="" />
    <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="pdficon_small.png" />
Cheers, Joe

Hi joegasper,

Thank you so much for the suggestions, I have added all of them to our wish list to be evaluated by the development team.
Any other ideas for Sharepoint integration are very welcome!
Thanks.

Sincerely,
