save a new PDF without access to previous overlays

Post by Wescot »

My client gets PDF1 from an external source and uses PDF-XChange Typewriter to add text and puts URL links (Tools>Link tools>etc) on that text. They would like to save PDF1 as PDF2 where PDF2 doesn't allow edit access to the text fields created in PDF1, AND still retains the URL links. ('Printing' to a PDF removes the URL links.) Does that feature exist with any of the Tracker Software products? Thanks.

Hi Wescot,

thanks for the post and question. Perhaps I'm missing something, but can you not simply use "Save As" PDF2 and set the permissions on there accordingly? That way your links will remain active and you can set your permissions on PDF2 to restrict access to the fields?

Changing file permission (to Read only) on PDF2 doesn't keep someone from moving annotated fields around or even deleting an added field (using a PDF viewer). The client wants the PDF2 file to be like an original un-edited PDF with no evidence of any annotation. The fields added to PDF1 by PDF-XChange need to be 'locked' when the PDF2 file is created.

Hi Wescot,

don't just make the document 'Read Only' but implement document security at the PDF Document level. See this article for details:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowled ... dits-to-it

I have attached a simple document where I used the above to limit access to the document. I believe this is the concept you are looking for. You would not then need to copy the document as there will be a password to 'unlock' those restrictions that your authors can use.

Do let me know if that is more like what you are after.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
