Viewer is quite slow
Windows 7 SP1 x64
Hi,
I'm a relatively new PDF xChange user.
I'm using two computers. One is a very new one with a fast CPU. PDF xChange is working fine on that one.
The other is a Windows 7 computer running on an Intel Core2 CPU with 1.86 GHz (two core CPU). The problem here is that PDF xChange viewer needs about 10-15 seconds to open either as a standalone program or with a PDF document. That's not really any faster than Adobe Acrobat Reader will open.
BTW: After the initial load any subsequent command to open PDF xChange viewer will be lightning fast (I guess because of some cache functionality).
So does anybody has any tips or ideas how to make PDF xChange viewer open faster on that rather old computer? Thanks!

Re: Viewer is quite slow
Hi Guess,
if the application is running well after the initial launch then I suspect the issue is to do with your Win 7 set up and may not be easy to trace.
One thing I noticed recently was that Adobe Reader was launching slowly for me even on a new PC. It was really frustrating because I need to test tings n Adobe frequently. Noting I could find offered an explanation, system monitoring didn't show excessive CPU or memory usage, it just seemed to sit there.... In frustration I uninstalled and re-installed it and 'magically' it started launching quickly.
Now I know this is hardly the most technical response, but have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the Viewer?

Re: Viewer is quite slow
Thanks Paul for your help.
Yes of course, I have uninstalled and re-installed the viewer. Just for comparison I tried another PDF viewer (Foxit). It started extremly fast even on the rather old computer. Then I re-installed PDF-XChange again. It still is starting up quite slowly.
I couldn't find out the reason for it since CPU and disk usage during startup is absolutly normal.
So maybe I will have to decide whether I rather stay with a fast viewer (Foxit) or with one with more features (PDF-XChange).

Hi again Guess,
well don't give up on us just yet! There may be something that we can do. Let me have a word to one of the more technically savvy staff and see if we can come up with any other suggestions.

Re: Viewer is quite slow
I would like to chime in also about the speed issue however my issue is a little different. and has to do with the new PDF-XChange Editor Version 3.0.
I also find PDF-XChange Editor Version 3.0 Build 275.0 RC to be kind of slow when opening pdf's compared to other readers like foxit, Sumatra and even PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.
The issue I have is when opening pdf files I noticed a very breaf UI glitch when they open where I see like a "black" border around the pdf. It's kind of hard to explain so I will attach a screenshot. Opening the same pdf files in either "PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5", Foxit and even Sumatra does not have this "Black" border and open very fast and smooth.
I relize PDF-XChange Editor 3.0 is still only a Release Candidate however I really think and hope it will be greatly optimized before it goes gold "final".
On all of my computers using PDF-XChange Editor Beta and now RC the other pdf viewers are mush faster at opening the same exact pdf files.
I have very high hopes for PDF-XChange Editor 3.0 and hope in the end it will be the best PDF reader on the market but these speed issues when opening pdf files must be fixed!
I love having all the great features of PDF-XChange Editor 3.0 but going forward I think "SPEED OPTIMIZATION" should be the #1 priority!

Can you provide us with any PDF file that the Editor opens slow? And please also let me know the configuration of your PC (memory, CPU, HDD)

Hi Ivan,
First let me expain when I said opens slow I don't mean slow as in like a turtle slow.
I mean like for example where PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5 always opens fast and smooth. PDF-XChange Editor when opening you see a quick ugly "Black Border" UI glitch and then the pdf is displayed.
Anyway can I e mail you the pdf as it has private info.
As far as computer specs
one computer has Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz 4GB Ram 7200RPM Hard Drive
And the other has a AMD Phenom II N950 Quad Core 4GB Ram and a 128GB SSD Drive.
Both computers have the same issue.

Re: Viewer is quite slow
Ok I found one example of a type of pdf that I see the "Black Border" UI glitch when opening.
This pdf is not mine so I do not have to send a private e mail however if you still want to see other pdf file also just let me know.
Copy and paste link below

I only seem to see the "Black Border" UI glitch with some pdf files not all of them.
Here is a small video of the issue

Re: Viewer is quite slow
Thanks, we can reproduce the issue (it seems that the issue is reproduced when the window of the Editor was maximized).
We will try to fix it in the next build.

Re: Viewer is quite slow
Even when PDF-XChange Editor 3.0 opens not maximized the UI is still kind of slow in rendering. And it takes an extra second or so before you can even see anything.Ivan - Tracker Software wrote:Thanks, we can reproduce the issue (it seems that the issue is reproduced when the window of the Editor was maximized).

Would be great if it was much more instant feeling.
I attached another screenshot of what I'm seeing when first opening that pdf file in a smaller non maximized window.
As you can see while you don't see the "Black Border" UI the whole UI is still "White and Blank" for a second or 2.
Thanks again
