Handwriting devices compatible with PDF-XChange Viewer ???

Post by radue »

:x I was logged in and when I went to post, it said I had to login again. Of course my original post was lost. Not good!

I have the latest version of PDF-XChange Viewer Pro on WinVista and today had to electronically add my signature to a pdf file using only the mouse. That was cumbersome. I also realized that this ability will be needed much more this year, so want to examine better solutions.

The solution should work with a regular desktop/laptop Win7 that is NOT touchscreen and should be reasonably priced.

I noticed the Bamboo tablet mentioned in this forum. Would this be a good solution, or should I consider other options? The idea of having a tablet where I can do other things besides signing my signature is definitely appealing. Having price points below $100 is attractive, although if there are good reasons to spend more, please make your case.

If a Bamboo tablet is a good choice, which one would you recommend and why?

Can this tablet and the mouse both be active at the same time?

Sorry Roger - we are not able to reccomend hardware solutions as we have limited market experience with any broad range of products,
the best solution for adding a hand written signature is to create a transparent stamp and use that - as detailed here;

Hi John,

That "stamp" idea is all well and good, but it begs the question of creating my signature in the first place. If I write it out on a piece of paper, then I will have to scan it in and create the stamp.

I am going to go ahead and purchase the Wacom Bamboo Capture Pen and Touch Tablet (CTH470) from Amazon and give it a try. I just had another occasion to need handwriting input today and can see this requirement happening a lot more. If this tablet works as advertised, I can see using it for a lot more than signatures.

I was hoping that others viewing this thread might have had experience using the Bamboo tablets with PDF-XChange Viewer and would be willing to share.

Actually, based upon issues another person was having with handwriting, you might find it a good investment to get one of the Bamboo tablets for your development team to use to ensure that everything works smoothly. When I talked with Wacom, one of their tech support people indicated that their tablet feeds information into the computer like the mouse. Both the mouse and the tablet can be connected and the user can move back and forth as needed without doing anything special or having to disconnect one of them.

Hi Roger,

Our dev team do already have Pens/Tablets for testing with generally - so we are able to work with these options in general if not specific terms - there are lots of tablets available as you will appreciate and we cannot obviously purchase and test with all - I can tell you that a lot more work is being done with version 3 and these options so either at or shortly after the release you should see some new more flexible setup options etc ...

Thanks and good luck.
