List of actions in the link tool?

Post by ulrik n?rreris »

Hi, I have been fooling around with the rectangle/quadrilateral link tools and I do not quite understand the results I get. If I make a list of actions, only one of them is carried out... I must say, I am at a loss to understand how it could be any different (if I click a link, how could more than one action occur?), but then why is it possible to make a list with more than one action? So, how do I get to link to two different places in the same document and to another document at the same time? And what should the result be?

Best regards

Hello Ulrik Nørreris,

There are quite a few Action types and many of them can be combined. When you click on a link or a bookmark all of those actions are "played" in the order in which they are added to the list. However if you add several GoTo actions - it would be the same as if you only added the last one. The Viewer does not support adding all action types available in the PDF specification, and the first two available go to a page in this document and go to a page in another document are considered GoTo actions, but adding one of those and e.g. opening a web link should work together - so I will need to discuss this with one of the Viewer experts and we will post back here when we have further comments on this.

Best,
Stefan

Actions from list will be executed one by one, in specified order. For example you may create (in Acrobat, not in our program for now) next actions list (a bit stupid in real life but good for understanding):

"Go to the 100 page" // by running "go to a page in this document" action
"Add bookmark for current page" // by running special JavaScript OR by running the named UI-command
"Save Document" // by running the named UI-command from main menu OR by running special JavaScript.
"Print Document" // by running the named UI-command from main menu OR by running special JavaScript.
"Send by Email" // by running the named UI-command from main menu.
"Close Document" // by running the named UI-command from main menu, or by running the special JavaScript

We will support adding of all types of actions in our new version V3.

Best

Do you mean that also Go-To Embedded will be supported? I think I would need that. I would like to create a link the clicking of which would cause an embedded PDF file to be displayed. I reckon the currently (2.5.208) listed "Go to a page in another document" will not do what I want because the only possibility I can find is to select a file with the standard Windows file open dialog implying that the link would open a different file on the filesystem.

Sure, we will support this type of actions. But not in first release, some bit later..
