I downloaded the latest portable version. When I want to start PDFXCview, Windows 7 asks me each time "Do you want to run this file?"
With an older version (2.5 build 195.0) this does not happen. Because of that, I am wondering whether the latest version is realy fully portable, i.e. does not leave any traces in the registry or other temp files on the computer?
I appreciate that you offer a portable version. It differenciates your software from others out there. Do you know about PortableApps.com? I use quite some software from that side because it is really user friendly. It could be a way to promote your great PDF-XChange Viewer. And they have a package to make software portable that the software does not leave any traces on the computer. Perhaps this package might safe you some time to create your portable versions.
I also tested the new OCR function. Great addition! I don't know any other portable software that can create searchable pdf. It is another differentiator for your software.
It was a bit complicated to add additional languages (I found out how in this forum). Perhaps you could offer ziped versions of the regional language packs for download (the regional language packs on download work only with the installed version).
Is there a chance to speed up the OCR engine? Or is it perhaps faster if the software is installed?

Re: Windows: Do you want to run this file?
Hello GBerry,
Where have you placed the portable Viewer's folder? If it's in e.g. "Program Files" - which is a special/protected/restricted/etc. folder in Win7 - then yes you will get such prompts. If you place the folder in e.g. "My Documents" or on the desktop - you should not get this prompt.
As for the OCR - yes it requires some manual tweaking n the portable version exactly because it doesn't work with the registry and the install packages we offer do so. And it's speed will depend on the dpi and quality of the images in your file. We are working on improving the speed as much as we can - but this is one of the fastest OCR engines available, and there isn't much room for improvement so you can't expect significant increases (e.g. twofold) in OCR speed in the future. Also there should be no difference in the speed between the portable and installed versions.
Best,
Stefan

Re: Windows: Do you want to run this file?
Hello Stefan,
Thanks for your reply.
I run the software from the desktop and the older version from SD card. After your reply I moved the new version to the SD card and the Windows message was gone - so the problem is solved.
Thanks
