Unable to select paper size

Post by paulmalko »

All printers work with PDFXchange Viewer perfectly except one, our Dell 7130cdn. Our 7130 has 2 trays w/ 8.5x11 in one and 11x17 in the other. My windows printing preferences are set so the 7130 & 8.5x11 are the windows default. I work with many drawings and get pdf files intended for all paper sizes.

When printing in pdfXchange, I can select any paper size within file->print->Printer Properties and I always get 8.5x11.

Choosing different paper sizes, including 11x17 from tray 2, doesn't have any impact.

When working with a 36" x 24" pdf file, checking or un-checking the "Page Scaling, Choose paper source by pdf page size" box allows me to choose between 8.5x11 and 17x18 (the largest paper the printer can handle).

What I really want is to print "scaled to fit printer margins" on 11x17.

The paper dimensions shown in the print preview window always accurately predict what I'm going to get.

The only way I can print a large drawing on to something other than 8.5x11 on the 7130 is to print a pdf via pdfXchange-Printer on the paper size I want, with the scaling I want, then print that new pdf to the 7130 with "Scale Type: None" and "Choose paper source by pdf-page size" checked.

This may be a printer driver function, but pdfXchange is the only app that shows this issue. All apps, even AutoCAD (the biggest pile of software dung in the world), print to the 7130 properly on my machine. All other printers & plotters work with pdfXchangeViewer properly from my PC.

Hi,

In our tests if you set your output settings as in the attached - you will receive the desired outcome.

Hope that helps

I'm pretty sure I'm doing it right. Here are 4 screen captures.
#1 is the 42" x 30" drawing I'm working with
#2 is the screen when I hit print (ctl-P)
#3 is the printer properties screen while selecting 11x17 paper
#4 is the print screen after selecting 11x17

As I see from your screenshot, you have two 'presets' for page - Letter and Tabloid.
Do these presets specify both "Output Paper Size" and "Original Document Size" to the same values as shown on the screeshot ?

I'm not certain I understand what you mean. Where are these values displayed.

When I've selected 11x17 from the printer properties the preview screen (right side of the print window) says "Paper: Letter (8.5x11)" and the paper dimension lines show "8.50" horizontally and "11.00" vertically.

Would it be easier for you to view my screen via skype?

Hello Paul,

Looking at your screenshots and those Ivan showed - this should be accessible from the drop down menu on your third screenshot -> Other size... as the window Ivan shows is labled "Paper Size".

Best,

Thanks, that worked. Never been in "Paper -> Other size" before. That does look just like your images.

"original document size" said 8.5x11 even though my pdf is 36x24. When I change the original document size to 11x17 I get a warning that says "The document size is generally specified by the application. Changes made here may not apply to the printed document." but it does print properly.

Now everything behaves predictably but it is annoying that only-pdfxchange and only-7130 that I have to select paper sizes in a different way than every other app and printer combination. Tolerable, but if you had a fix, I'd really appreciate it.

Hi paulmalko,

It's quite tricky for us to get everything right with every possible combination of printing drivers and software, but we are trying :) I believe that once you set those options up correctly you would not need to touch them much anyway!

Best,
Stefan

The procedure that works for me is choosing the paper size via the other sizes and selecting the paper size I want in both fields.

I understand. Let me guess, you're working in a Microsoft development environment. ;)
