Extracting/Viewing Pages
I extracted these 2 pages to send you from a file that contains 387. The file looks fine in the Viewer over here, but not in the Editor as do these 2 pages.
When I tried extracting the 2 pages with the Editor, the program extracted the 2 pages, but the file was just as large as the complete 387 page file. This did not happen when I extracted them using the Viewer.

Hi Arnold,
Thanks for the post - I'm afraid that we'll need the original file to test this. Can you please upload or send to support@pdf-xchange.com, packaged in a .zip folder/ RAR or 7Zip archive?
Thanks, let me know!

Re: Extracting/Viewing Pages
Thanks for the sample Arnold.
I must say that for me both the original and the 2 pages extracted look the same in both the Viewer and Editor, but you are correct that extracting pages with the Editor currently produces quite a larger result than doing the same operation with the Viewer.
Can you also include a screenshot of how these extracted pages look on your end in the Viewer and Editor side by side so that we can note the differences? And we will check the page extraction issue.
Best,
Stefan

Re: Extracting/Viewing Pages
First of all thanks to Tracker Software for creating PDF-XChange Editor, and especially to the supporting team and developers for making this product each time better and better.
I don't know if it may help but in the attached print screen, I put a screenshot of what I see in PDF-XChange Viewer (pages at the left) and of what I see in PDF-XChange Editor (same pages at the right). It seems like Arial and/or Helvetica fonts are not displayed correctly.
I can also confirm that the PDF with the extraction of the two pages is almost as large as the original PDF.
(Tested in Windows 7 Home Premium - 32 bit / PDF-XChange Editor 3.0 - build 301.0)
At this occasion, I would like to ask something for the 'wish list' :
Would it be possible to extract pages in arbitrary order, in a way of random choice, like 3, 5, 2, 7, 6, ... ?

Re: Extracting/Viewing Pages
Hi Willy,
Attached below you can see how the file looks at my end, so please do make sure to install the latest build of the Editor.
I can confirm the size issue when extracting pages.
As for specifying arbitrary page ranges - you can do it both in the Viewer AND editor. Check the second screenshot in the archive.
Best,
Stefan

It looks the same on my computer as the screenshots that were posted. I am using Windows XP sp3. I am using 301 which is the latest build I think.

Re: Extracting/Viewing Pages
1) I'm sure to be using the latest downloadable build 301 (PDFXEdit.EXE with date 26/04/2013 - 13:27).
Maybe Tracker Support is using a more recent build ? In the left bottom corner of your print screen, I see a 'Comments' pane. In build 301 this pane is not yet available : View > Other panes > Comments is grayed out...
When I look at the Document Properties of the original Specs.pdf via the Editor, I only see (two) Helvetica fonts and
when I look via the Viewer, I also see Arial and Times New Roman fonts... (245 fonts in total !)
Can it be that my computer is using (wrong) replacement fonts for Helvetica ? I do not have this font on my computer.
2) For extraction of arbitrary pages, I ment pages in a random and even reversed order. For exemple first page 7 and then page 3 and 4, then page 15 and after that page 5.
In PDF-XChange Viewer it is clearly stated how it 'actually' works... : in a consecutive order "counting from the start of the document".

Re: Extracting/Viewing Pages
Hi Willy,
No even if you specify the pages in an arbitrary order (e.g. 5, 1-2, 7) - it will still extract pages 1,2,5 and 7 - and place them in that order in the new file.
You will need to rearrange them after the extraction.
Best,
Stefan

Hi guys,
Just wanted to throw in that I've reproduced the issue with thin text, so we'll definitely pass this on for the Devs. to look at.
Cheers,
Will

Re: Extracting/Viewing Pages
Hi all,
After discussing this we've created a couple of tickets in our system to fix both problems reported in this topic:
#1863: Editor 3.0.301: Extracted pages too large
#1864: Editor 3.0.301: Font displayed too thin
We will let you know as soon as there are any news for either of the tickets.
Best,
Stefan
