after selecting text, the cut option is greyed out

Im using the PDFXCHANGE VIEWER Build 210.0

I've tried selecting text that I need to delete from a PDF document. The selected text can be copied and paste as ASCII into "notepad", but the "cut" option isn't available. The PDF document appears to be otherwise editable.

I've tried this on several PDF documents from very different sources. Such a simple operation - what am I missing?

welcome to the forums and thanks for the post.

The PDF-XChange Viewer is not capable of editing the base content of a PDF this way. What you want is the PDF-XChange Editor. Grab it from the downloads page here: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product/downloads

You should be able to do what you want with that. This Editor is slated to soon replace the Viewer, the current build of the Editor does not have all the features of the Viewer but those are being added as we speak.

Thank you for the details. I've installed version 3 of the PDF-XChange Editor. However, believe it or not, it still doesn't work for me! (I tried two documents this time.) I'm able to select the text, and to then copy it and paste it as ASCII into "notepad" - however cut does not work and in this program, paste does not either. Both are grayed out.

Is it possible that this edit is not available in the free evaluation version?

Thanks for the follow-up - the ability to cut and paste has not yet been implemented within the Editor, but it should be in the next build update, hopefully by the end of the month (though this is obviously dependent on the need to fix any bugs that are found).
