Resize PDF

Post by chasethewind »

It appears the Resize command basically crops out an area and places it on the desired sheet size. This tool should Resize the entire PDF to the desired sheet size. Why does it not do this? What am I missing?

Thanks,

Cory

Probably it is a question of interpretation what you mean by resizing a page...

When resizing a picture it is the whole picture that is resized, comparable with a magnification or a reduction.

When resizing a page it is the "dimension of the page" that changes, but not the content.
So, it is comparable with cropping, but (mostly) in the opposite way, i.e. the size of the page is getting larger.

Maybe the support people of Tracker software can correct me if i'm wrong with my interpretation of the Document > Resize Pages option.

Hello Willy Van Nuffel, chasethewind,

Yes the Resize Pages currently works exactly as crop - not touching the contents and only changing the "canvas" on which it is placed.

If you want to fit all content on a smaller page you can "reprint" the larger one and tell the Viewer to "scale" the content at print time.

I struggle with how difficult it is to enlarge (resize) a portion of a pdf drawing, found on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet, to a size usable in the field. I constantly "crop" a bit of a drawing/sketch, and print it out on 11x17, to show workers. I have found that the easiest way (sorry to reference another product), is to zoom in on the subject, and print it out to a pdf, using NovaPDF, at any size i choose. Quick, painless, and i wish Tools, or Viewer did that. Tools is my Swiss Army knife, Viewer is always on my desktop, and i print using Nova (formerly DoPDF). No one product does it all, but i'll get by until one of them makes it all easy for us field guys.
thanks

Hi Brian,

Yes indeed for the moment to use our Viewer/Editor to print a very specific area the most precise way could be to use the Crop tool and then print only the cropped area.

But have you also tried the "Tile large pages" option, and setting a custom zoom - e.g. 200+ % ?
This will zoom and split your original page(s) over several sheets, and you can then select to only print the sheets you want.

Also a nice way to zoom in the entire plot if you have only A4/Letter sheets of paper but want to have the whole document large enough for the field.

Stefan
