Our firm has moved from Adobe Standard to PDF-XChange Pro and so far so good. One big problem is a stumbling block for our organization, maybe this group can help. We are an A&E firm and produce building specifications that are quite large. We are attempting to use PDF-XChange Pro 5. One small project is around 900 pages. That’s the master document. We have a number of small PDF files that are maybe 30 pages that need to be inserted in various places. Simple enough. We also need to insert some blank page in the repro phase – after the final specs are produced. Also simple enough.
Here is the rub – this is a SMALL job and inserting 8 extra documents and 30 blank pages is not too much work the way this product works. Now the real problem comes when we do a real job, say 5,000 to 10,000 pages, with extra blocks of custom sections contained in external PDF files. The way it worked with Adobe Standard is that our author would open up the master PDF document and use the thumbnail view. He would open Windows explorer and drag the small custom PDF files into the thumbnail view, dropping them into the thumbnail view wherever they need to go. When this is done in PDF-XChange, it just opens the other doc in a new tab. Is there a way to change this behavior to the desired one? I did not see this in the preferences.
Inserting via drag and drop

Re: Inserting via drag and drop
I'm leaving up the answer to this question to Tracker support, but
Maybe using PDF-Xchange x.0 pro > PDF-Tools x > Split/Merge, can be an alternative.
You can easily drag and drop PDF-files from a Windows Explorer window to the Split/Merge window.
You can easily change the order of the PDF-files (via Up / Down) and you can even select the pages that you really want from each PDF, by clicking on the specific line and clicking on the little green (...)-box that appears at the end of that line.
Via the NEXT button you can continue through the additional options (like keeping the bookmarks) and finally you can indicate the destination and the name for the resulting PDF.
I hope this can (temporarely) help you out of the problem.
Regards.

Hi, FSB
Best
Regards
We are planning to add this feature in the near future: the D&D files from Window Explorer into PDF Editor's ThumnailsPane -to add new pages OR into AttachmentsPane - to add new attachments, etc. Please wait..He would open Windows explorer and drag the small custom PDF files into the thumbnail view, dropping them into the thumbnail view wherever they need to go. When this is done in PDF-XChange, it just opens the other doc in a new tab. Is there a way to change this behavior to the desired one? I did not see this in the preferences.

Re: Inserting via drag and drop
Please add this feature soon. I constantly have to build pdf documents by inserting multiple pdfs into a master pdf document. When doing so, it is very easy to add pdfs by dragging and dropping at the right page in the master document. Notably, many of your competitor's products have worked this way for years. I realize that I am one person, but this feature is certainly important to me, and the earlier post confirmed that it is important to others--and I came here to stress that in case it makes a difference.
And while I am here, I'll throw in a feature request. The thing that makes pdfxchange viewer/editor better than most others is the use of tabs. The Editor's feature of being able to insert a pdf from an existing tab into a pdf of the currently viewed tab is a pretty cool feature. The feature would be even better if there was a "append the pdfs of all tabs into the current pdf keeping tab order." That way, I could open a main document, review all of the exhibits, attachment, appendices, etc. to that main document in the separate tabs in the logical order, and then combine them all with a single action.
I realize that this can be done with the other products, but I bought the pro version when the editor came out thinking that I could use 1 program instead of many. (I also bought it because the delete function actually deletes pages unlike some of your competitors. But that is a side story).
Thanks.

Hi bqxmprij,
Thanks for your post. As stated above - we are working on this feature already and it will be added as soon as possible.
Also thank you for the Feature suggestion - we will consider it and if approved we will add it to our ToDo list.
