browser freezes... (sort of)

Post by mmoni »

Hello,

Something strange started to happen to my browser when I open a PDF document within it using the Viewer. I'll try to explain it the best I can. After I open a PDF and close it, the browser "semi-freezes". I am unable to type any URL directly into the address bar. I cannot type any keyword into the search bar, either - when I click them, nothing happens. However, I can switch between tabs, use menu commands etc. My workaround has been so far to open any random page from my bookmark folder - this brings the browser back to life. Is there any other way to make this behaviour disappear? I use Waterfox 18 (a 64-bit version of Firefox). The symptoms started perhaps two updates ago or something like that.

Hello mmoni,

Thanks for your post, but that's rather unusual behaviour, and so is your browser. Can you check if there's a newer version of it as I see that the standard FireFox is at version 24(!!!) now, and maybe there's a newer and fixed version of WaterFox as well?

Regards,
Stefan

It didn't occur to me to check Waterfox because it's not been updated for ages, but now they've finally caught up with Firefox. I updated Waterfox to the latest version and after the necessary meddling with plugins and filetype associations it seems to work fine. Thanks for your help.
