Install Fails
I was running the free version of PDF-XChange successfully on a Win 7 computer that died. The replacement computer is Win 8. When I download and run the install, it runs to where the progress bar is completely filled in and then it hangs, i.e. Task Manager says it is not responding. After I end the task, the Viewer is installed and working, but the printer interface is not there. I tried several times. The problem occurs with PDFXSSA_LE_H. I ran PDFXXSSA_LE once and it worked, but it creates PDF's with the "BUY NOW" watermarks. I would like to get the clean version to install completely. Thanks.

Re: Install Fails
Hi busterbalz,
when you run the Free for Home use installer please look for the screen "Select Additional Tasks" as below and uncheck the option to set the Viewer as default. It is by default selected and on occasion we have seen where it fails to recieve confirmation from WebBrowsers about setting the plugin. Sometimes if it fails the Browsers do not report this properly and the installer hangs.
We are aware of this issue an looking for a fix. In the meanwhile the work around is to not set the Viewer as default during installation but afterwards using Edit --> Preferences --> File Associations

Re: Install Fails
I did the install. It didn't look like the screenshot you posted above. There were a lot of components with check boxes. I unchecked everything from the PDF XChange Viewer down and ran the install. Install ran to completion with the following results:
1. PDF XChange Printer Lite shows up in the list of printers and it creates and stores a pdf of the document I'm working with.
2. Another program I have - FileCenter - started displaying error messages and appeared to be corrupted. I noticed that that program had the same behavior when I first tried installing PDF XChange Lite, but I thought it could be from something else as I'm doing a lot of installs to configure this new computer with the software that was on the old computer. This time, PDF XChange was the only thing that ran before the FileCenter program failed.
3. I uninstalled and re-installed FileCenter and it seems to be working fine now.
4. I then went back to your site and downloaded the free PDF XChange Viewer. The file is PDFXVwer.exe. I ran that install and it hung at the end just like the first attempt at PDF XChange Lite. Task manager showed three sub-instances and said all three were not responding. I ended the tasks and looked at the desktop. There is a shortcut for PDF-Viewer on the desktop and it seems to work OK. The viewer also works OK if I open a pdf file and select the PDF XChange program.
At this time, it appears that all of your software and all of my software is working correctly.
I did not have any issues at all when I downloaded and installed PDF XChange Lite on the Win 7 machine. Don't know if the issues now are due to Win 8 or newer versions of your stuff. I do feel that if I didn't have a background with 40 years of professional IT experience, I would have never gotten your software installed and would have moved on to one of your competitors.
That said, I do appreciate the prompt response to my issue and the advice that set me on the right path, and I want you to be aware of these issues so they can be addressed as necessary.

Re: Install Fails
Hi Buster,
I'm not sure what happened here. The screen you described sounds like the "Select Components" scree. Does it look like this?:

The "Select Additional Tasks" screen I was referring to is 2 screens after that in the installer. I just tested this again and it is definitely there. It should really be as simple as uncheckng those 2 boxes and continuing the install.
The issue with FileCenter is likely because they use our PDF printer technology in their application and a conflict may have arisen. This makes sense when considering that reinstalling FileCenter fixed that conflict.
I really am sorry that you had this experience in your installation. It usually goes relatively simply. I am however pleased that you managed to sort this out.
Do let us know if we can be of any further assistance

Re: Install Fails
I found one program where PDF XChange was not working. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it as you described. Looks like everything is working correctly now.
Thanks for the help.
