Right to left text in comments/text boxes doesn't work

Post by BenjaminCS »

Hi,

If I write some Hebrew words in a comment or text (including next to English words) the letters are written left to right, so it's unreadable... it works correctly in Adobe Reader.

Is there a way to solve this?

Thank you.

Hi BenjaminCS,

Thanks for the post - right to left language supprt has not been implemented in the Viewer.

Right to left language support has been implemented in the Editor and is also in the process of being updated to remedy certain issues, with regards to text appearing backwards:

Editor download:

Cheers, hope that helps!

Thank you, I downloaded Editor.

1) Unfortunately the Hebrew vowels in text boxes and comments are misplaced:

In Adobe Reader (correct vowels):

In PDF-XChange Editor (incorrect placement):

To try this, it is possible copy/paste the word מֹשֶׁה into a text box in PDF-XChange Editor (other words are available at this dictionary).

2) Also, if I copy Hebrew text from the normal content of a PDF file, then it is pasted backwards elsewhere, whereas copy/paste works correctly when copying from the same document in Adobe Reader.

3) Searching for (Ctrl+F) right-to-left text in the normal content of a PDF file also works in Reader but not Editor.

To try this, it is possible to go to Hebrew English Exodus chapter 2 and save the page as PDF in Chrome (using PDF-XChange Printer does not preserve the text, it is not selectable). For example copy/pasting the word מֹשֶׁה (or משה) into the search field on the web page (Chrome) or in the corresponding PDF in Adobe Reader will correctly find the word for Moses, but not in Editor.

Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for the sample. I've checked this with the colleagues from development and we had to make two separate tickets.
#2089: Editor 3.0.306: Misplaced hebrew vowels
is for point 1) from your list.

For 2) and 3) a separate ticket is needed:
#2090: Editor 3.0.306: Copy pasting and searching of hebrew text issues

We will see to resolve both in a timely manner and will post here as soon as there are any news on either problem.

P.S.
Just a quick update that both of the above tickets are now resolved.
#2089 was solved some time ago, and #2090 was fixed for the latest build.

Regards,
Stefan
