pdf's in IE no longer open in PDF-XChange

Tearing my hair out.
I use IE for only ONE site--a medical company which I MUST interface with, and which works only with IE. Things worked well, and a report I need to dl always opened in PDF-XChange Viewer whenever I selected it...actually a dialog opened to Open it or Save it, and I always opened then saved it while in PDF-XChange Viewer.

Then I installed IE 11 and that ended--the report opens inside an IE window, not in PDF-XChange. So, I uninstalled the IE 11 update and reverted back to IE 10, but it now works same as IE 11.

I reinstalled PDF-XChange and selected the addins to FIREFOX and IE during the install. No change. The pdf opens only inside IE, not in PDF-XChange.

PDF-XChange is file-associated to the pdf extension.

I am out of ideas. How do I get this back to opening in PDF-XChange instead of inside a browser window?

Oh, I just noticed that it does appear PDF-XChange is running INSIDE the browser window. But before, the report pdf was opening in a separate instance, independent window of PDF-XChange rather than inside the browser. That mode is what I would like back.

In PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5 > Edit-menu > Preferences > File Associations > uncheck "Display PDF in browser".
Click Apply and OK to confirm.
Close PDF-XChange Viewer via File > Exit.

Now try again to open a PDF from within Internet Explorer...

That =IS= unchecked. That's why I am confused about this. It still opens inside the browser window rather than opening an instance of PDF-XChange.

WAIT...
SOLVED. I don't know what happened, but LastPass icon disappeared from IE so I reinstalled it, and now pdf's are activating a PDF-XChange instance as before. I don't know what was the glitch, but it is resolved.
