Windows Shell Displaying PDF-XChange Viewer w/i Application

Post by Zardoz2293 »

If PDF is loaded (opened) directly into PDF-XChange Viewer with "Manage Recent List" + Preferences > General > Opening Documents > (checked) Restore Last Session when application starts THE LAST PAGE you were on within the PDF is displayed. This, to me, is a highly desirable workflow usability tool. HOWEVER, if through Windows Shell PDF-XChange Viewer is displayed within an Application the Preferences > ... > "Restore Last Session...starts" is grayed out and the behavior is to ALWAYS display the FIRST PAGE (or whatever is set in the PDF) -- not desirable.

Is this functionality available in the paid version or the same undesirable behavior exists? If it doesn't exist what is the probability of having this implemented so the product has more value?

Thanks!

Hello Zardoz2293,

Welcome to our forums. The functionality you are describing is intended as a preview only, but I will ask our devs if the proposed change of behaviour is something we will consider. This is not a limitation of the free vs pro versions.

Regards,
Stefan

Okay. I understand.

However, the reality is the "preview" has/can have, most, if not all of the tool bars active, as well as, the menu which goes a long distance beyond a preview. If I'm previewing the PDF, I'd like the option, to configure the preview, to remember the last page I was viewing in that specific PDF (regardless of preview or full mode), otherwise, this significantly limits the preview ability/value. I understand that some end-users will only want to display the beginning of the PDF each time. A configuration option would be super nice.

Related to the preview mode, there are a number of quirky things where you can make modifications (or it appears you have) to the PDF and when you leave the preview all changes are lost -- not good. In my opinion you should *not* be allowed to make any changes unless you are prompted to save or abandon those changes when you leave the preview mode.

Much appreciation for your quick reply and serious consideration of implementing the above enhancements.

Thanks!

Hello Zardoz2293,

I am speaking of the preview in the attached image. And I am unable to turn on/off any additional toolbars.
Are you referring to the same?

Regards,
Stefan

Hi Zardoz,

that looks like an application created by a third party that calls our Viewer. It was most likely built using our SDK. Can you tell me if this is the case? I assume so from the title Windows Shell Displaying PDF-XChange Viewer w/i Application

What is the name of this application? Can you send a screen shot of the whole desktop running this?

It is quite possible that this needs to be addressed to the developers of that third party application.
Best regards

I'm 99.99 percent positive your SDK is not being called. The third party application displays any file based on its extension an Windows Shell API, therefore, I'm assuming its calling IPreviewHandler. I'm currently waiting to hear from the developer.
