I recently tried several pdf viewers and settled on PDF-Xchange. But a most frustrating phenomenon has manifested itself.
Before I started this, when I "opened" a pdf in the browser (speaking of IE10 at this point), a separate window opened, showed a downloading message, then a yellow bar appeared at the bottom of the window with options to open or save. I would select 'open' and (IMPORTANT>>>) the pdf file would open in the pdf viewer--NOT IN THE BROWSER.
Now, I get that yellow bar flashing into view for milliseconds, then a dialog box appears with open, save, save-as options. If I select 'open' at that point, it OPENS IN THE BROWSER using the plugin. I can find no way to get the file to open in the viewer app's own window, except to save it and manually open the saved file.
I surely would like to have my old way it operated back.
Display pdf "not-in-browser" cannot be achieved

Re: Display pdf "not-in-browser" cannot be achieved
Hello jcarerra,
Close IE, and then start the Editor. Go to Edit -> Preferences -> File Associations, and uncheck the "Display in Browser" checkbox.
Save the changes and then try opening another file in IE.
Regards,
Stefan

I had seen that before and had already unchecked it. Just tested again, and same thing happens...Tracker Supp-Stefan wrote:Close IE, and then start the Editor. Go to Edit -> Preferences -> File Associations, and uncheck the "Display in Browser" checkbox.

By the way, the window with the "Generating your report... " message is something created by the site where I am getting the pdf. It is a medical services company and I am clicking a button that creates a pdf report containing data for a specified period.
But I don't think it is this company's site causing the issue as it previously did not do this. Further, the "yellow bar" that appeared when it worked right still appears (briefly), but now is being "over-ridden" by SOMETHING that is changing from that to the dialog box...and the resultts of 'open' in the dialog box are different from selecting 'open' in the bottom yellow bar.
pic of the new dialog box attached>>>except when I attach it and upload, it does not show. oh well
try this

EDIT: Just tried Firefox, which is my normal browser. I was using IE for this site because there is one function I do on this site (data upload) that requires java, and I have it installed only in IE. Using Firefox to request the report, I get a popup box where I can select 'open' and IT OPENS in PDF_Xchange, not inside the browser. So, there is something happening relative to IE that is causing the "new" way it works.

Hi jcarerra,
Thanks for the post - I actually spoke to the Dev. Team in regards to a very similar (if not identical) issue the other day. They are aware of this and it should be fixed for the next build.
Cheers,
