PDF with Form Fields prints boxes

We have a PDF someone created long ago with some form fields. If we specify Form Fields Data Only in Editor (Version 3, Build 307.2) the boxes around the fields are printed in addition to the text in the fields. If we do the same in Adobe Reader, only the text is printed. Sound like a bug? Or is there some setting I need to change to get this to work correctly?
