I have created a (attached) PDF file with pdfLaTeX. This file contains an attached file called asdf.txt. When viewed on screen, the link to the attached file is visible and clickable. So far everything works as expected. However, I cannot make PDF-XChange Viewer build 214.2 to print the link which is actually a PushPin annotation. As seen in the code
the flag value is 4 meaning bit position 3 is set. This should cause the following (PDF 1.2) If set, print the annotation when the page is printed. If clear,
never print the annotation, regardless of whether it is displayed on the
screen.
In the Print window there is a Print Options dropdown menu called Print. If I select Document and Markups (the default), the preview correctly indicates that the file attachment will not print. Only if I select Only Markups will the annotations print. I would expect that the Markups referred to by the different selections mean all markups and not some subsets.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Please try the Editor instead: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product ... nge-editor
It will print the push-pin annotation when the "print notes and pop-ups" option in the advanced printing settings is turned on.
Thank you for the advice. Editor does print the pushpin with Print Notes checked, however it surprises me that it thinks that the pushpin is a Note which is
(Note) An item of explanatory text, such as a footnote or an endnote, that is
referred to from within the body of the document. It may have a label (structure type
Lbl; see “List Elements” in 14.8.4.3, “Block-Level Structure Elements”) as a child.
The note may be included as a child of the structure element in the body text that
refers to it, or it may be included elsewhere (such as in an endnotes section) and
accessed by means of a reference (structure type Reference).
Tagged PDF does not prescribe the placement of footnotes in the page content
order. They may be either inline or at the end of the page, at the discretion of the
conforming writer.
Do you think that PDF-XChange Viewer does what it should? If it does, what explains the conflict I see (print markup is selected, pushpin is markup but is not printed)? According to Table 169 in PDF 32000-1:2008, FileAttachment is Markup.
I will need to run this through our dev team for some further insight on why the File Attachment annotation is only printed by the Editor when "notes and popups" is selected. And as for the Viewer - it doesn't seem right that it is not printing this at all, but I can't say whether any changes will be done to it now that the Editor has been around for some time, and all our development efforts are focused on it rather than the Viewer.
Do you think that PDF-XChange Viewer does what it should?
It seems look like an issue with 'Markups Only' in Viewer. In Adobe the "print markups" option means "Print all markups excepting an attachment/sound notes". Editor reproduced this behavior correctly, but viewer - not. So, the attachment/sound notes are markups but are artificially excluded from printing, even you choose the 'print markups' (i.e. 'Document and Markus' OR 'Markups Only') option.
The issue with 'Markups Only' will be fixed in the next build of viewer.
Also, in the future we may add the additional option to print attachment/sound notes..
Thanks for your report and
Best
Regards.
