not displaying transparencies/fades/blends correctly
Hi,
I've just had to re-install my laptop from scratch and had to re-install PDXF viewer. Before the reinstall (not sure what version I had before) I had no problem viewing files I create with Adobe InDesign. all fades and transparencies display fine. But now they don't. As per the attached pdfx-sample.pdf - the one on the left is PDFX and the right is acrobat. The "page-46.pdf" is the actual pdf file I'm viewing.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled (2.5 b308.1) with no difference - even tried PDFX editor beta - same result. Am I just missing some setting or has something changed with the latest version that is stopping this?
thanks in advance

Re: not displaying transparencies/fades/blends correctly
Hello grizlyadams
Thank you for the post, and welcome to the forum.
The current build of the Editor (version 5.5 build 308.1) is a fully released product and displays everything fine on my end (as far as I can tell). Please download and install the Editor to give it a try:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/downloads/PDFXVE5.zip
I am seeing the same issue in the viewer as you are. I will speak with the development team on whether or not there will be a fix. Keep in mind that the Editor has replaced the Viewer. You can have both installed side by side.
I hope this helps,

Re: not displaying transparencies/fades/blends correctly
thanks for the info.
When you say editor has replaced viewer - does that mean viewer is to be phased out? I don't like the editor - too much wasted screen real estate. On screens that are wider than they are tall - why put all that at the top of the screen? - why not down the side where you can afford to lose some pixels? Yes I know you can minimise the ribbon - that that's and extra click and unclick and to me its not an improvement.
Editor also has functionality that I don't want and of course changes the interface
Viewer was just fine for me - I'd really like the viewer fixed rather than being forced to use the editor.
cheers

Re: not displaying transparencies/fades/blends correctly
No further development will take place on the Viewer I am afraid - all future development will be with the Editor.
You can of course continue to use the Viewer should you wish with the caveat that no new features or bug fixes will be available in the future.
The only 'sweetener' I can offer is that as soon as we are over the 'hump' of adding in all the required features from the Viewer and some long promised new features we will attend to the extend UI customization we have always intended to offer.
HTH

ok, so now using PDF editor this happens.
sample2 is the same file open in adobe and pdfe - the file has a gradient feather on the left of the image, but pdfe displays it on the right!!
page 14 is the actual file

Re: not displaying transparencies/fades/blends correctly
Thanks for the sample grizlyadams,
I can see the problem in the Editor as well so I've made a ticket in our internal system:
RT#2551
So that our devs could take a look at this and fix it.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: not displaying transparencies/fades/blends correctly
thanks -
also (and this might need a separate post) when I choose to email using email client, focus momentarily goes to the mail client (outlook) then returns to PDFE with a timer . . . with PDF reader the focus styed in the mail client (as you would expect) until the email was completed and sent.
I shouldn't have to alt-tab out of PDFE into the email client.

well, it doesn't really help, it just acknowledges a problem.
off to oldversion.com to find an old version of reader methinks.

Re: not displaying transparencies/fades/blends correctly
I installed the 64bit version of viewer (2.5 build 211) and all is well.
email works as it should
screen real estate isn't wasted
fades/blends display as they should
I should have done that in the first place I guess.
thanks
