Have just installed PDF-XChange Editor and am in learning/testing phase (free version). I have configured the SMTP server but usage attempts fail with a the follow error "Error[MailLib]: unknown error.
The SMTP server log shows no data being transmitted. The log entries are:
T 20140616 140301 53995d7e Connection from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
T 20140616 140301 53995d7e EHLO friend
T 20140616 140301 53995d7e AUTH login
T 20140616 140301 53995d7e DATA
T 20140616 140301 53995d7e QUIT
T 20140616 140301 53995d7e Connection closed with xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, 0 sec. elapsed.
I am using the same configuration settings that are working for SMTP messages by my backup software. Thoughts? A PRO version feature only perhaps?

thanks for the heads up on this. I am also seeing some incorrect responses when testing SMTP sending. Can you tell me if you are using SSL or TLS? What ports are you using?
We are investigating here and if you can tell us the settings you are using (minus the password and user name should be fine) that would help. Maybe a screenshot of the Preferences --> Send Mailscreen. If you don't want to post it in public please send it by email to support@pdf-xchange.com and include a reference to this thread so we know what it's about.

My SMTP server is configured to handle port 25 internally and an alternate port from the outside. I have tested both. Authentication is required via TLS but will accept without TLS if originating IP address is local. I receive different errors depending on whether Xchange Editor is configured with or without TLS With TLS enabled there is no connection attempt logged by the SMTP server. As for a screenshot of the config settings, I know the current settings are probably invalid because I have been testing every combination I can think of. Post back if you think it would be useful to have a screenshot of the settings that I know are working for my backup software and I will configure accordingly and send it to you. Nothing special though. Port 25, server name as IP address of SMTP server, username & password authentication.

it does look like there are some changes that may need to happen at this end. I have created a Support Request Ticket to track the progress of this issue. (Internal only). The ticket is RT#2572: Editor send mail fails to send email when using SMTP.
We will contact you when there is movement on this. I hope that helps.

As I have still the same problem (SMTP/ SSL/ port 587) it looks to me that there weren't any changes?
I use V5.5 Build 308.2

Thank you for the post. As far as I am aware, this is still an ongoing issue. Though please note, the current build is 310, not 308.1 as you are using. I would recommend updating regardless of whether or not the mail send issue was resolved. You can check out the version history here: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/PDFXE_history.html
