Modifying Images

Post by Bhikkhu Pesala »

I was not too surprised to find that I cannot copy images to the clipboard in the Free version, but is it possible in the paid-for version?

Then, what options are available for adjusting images? It seems that there are no properties to adjust — not even the basics like brightness and contrast.

I could easily do this in another application, if I could cut and paste them back into the editor.

Hi Bhikkhu,

We are working on a tool that will allow image manipulation and then insertion of the updated image back in the PDF file, but this is not yet ready.

Best,
Stefan

Maybe this could be done like so:
  1. Choose the Modify Document Tool from the toolbar or menu
  2. Right click on an image in your PDF document that is open in PDF-XChange Editor
  3. Choose "Edit with external editor" from the context menu
The favorite image editor of one's choice could be set up in the settings dialog of PDF-XChange Editor. For example, I use Paint.net most of the time for its simplicity yet still advanced features. Other users will have completely different favorite image editors.

This way, an image could be edited externally in one's respective favorite editor, and if the external editor is closed, the edited image could be inserted back into the current PDF document. Also, bitmap editing capability would not have to be hard-coded into PDF-XChange Editor itself then.

Just my two cents worth on this feature request.

Hi David,

I'm not entirely sure how we plan to implement this. I believe that it's along the lines of what you've suggested, but I can't confirm this as the Dev. Team aren't in yet. As it's Thanksgiving here, I'm not sure that they will be in until tomorrow.

Cheers,

Thank you Will.

The "External Editor" way is at least the way Acr*bat does it.

(Right Click on Image -> Edit with -> for example Microsoft Paint)

Hi David,

Yes indeed this is the implementation we are considering as well - but just as Will said above we do not have the specific details from the dev team.

I would like to see a way to adjust the image directly in PDF-XChange from the Properties toolbar or panel. In my opinion, adjusting brightness and contrast will be the most frequent requirement for users, and there's really no need to open it in an external editor just for that. The screen shot shows the context toolbar with an image selected in Serif Apps.

I take the liberty of using this thread for my development proposals since they deal with the subject: image handling.

We have had this software in our company for about a month now and ten people use it daily to make our reports to our customers. The reports require attaching of images to predefined image frames. Therefore I would like to see two new features in the editor:

1. Compatibility with adobe's add image function where a button on a form opens the file explorer and lets you choose an image file to attach to a predefined image frame.

2. The possibility to predetermine and fix the aspect ratio on the snapshot tool so that I could match the shape of the image I copy to the place I need to put it into. Also seeing the pixel dimensions of the selected area on the righ hand properties bar or on the status bar on the bottom would be a useful feature.

If these are already on the software and I have not found them please let me know how to find and use them.

Otherwise it has been a great investment for our company and the people using it praise it over Adobe's tools for the tasks we use it for.

Thanks.

Hi fikla,

as Stefan mentioned, opening an image in an external editor is already planned. I've added a Feature Request for the additional features requested here. RT#2753: Featrure Request : Modifying Images in Editor

This thread is now 3 years old and the Editor still doesn't have this feature. It is a very much needed feature, which I hope you will implement soon.

Hello Henrik,

Yes - it is now possible to manipulate image elements of a PDF file directly in the Editor. Please take a look here for a video tutorial to the feature:

Hi Henrik,

Even if it is just a single image - you can still modify it with the same tool as from the video.
To be able to select the image originally - you need to use the Edit Content tool.
