All users acces

Post by Nielson »

Hello,
Good afternoon. I am german and completly new in the forum. This afternoon I charged PDF-XChange Viewer for Firefox. Operating system Windows 7.
Unfortunatly, each time I want to open a pdf-document under the user without administator rights I be asked the password for the administrator and than I succed to open the document.
Is there any possibility to allow acces for non administator users? How shouls I proceed?
Thank you in advance.
Regards
Klaus

Hi Nielson,

what is set in your Editor preferences? Under Edit --> Preferences --> File Associations is a box "View PDF Files in browsers". When this setting is applied the Windows UAC should kick in. Does it for you? The UAC is needed because Administrative privileges are required to make the browser plugin associations. This should ensure it is available to non-administrative users.

If you turn off View PDF files in Browsers, close the Editor (this is when your preferences are written to the Windows Registry), restart the Editor and change that again, you should see the UAC prompt. Do you? Try toggling that a couple of times and let me know if you ever see the UAC prompt.

Also - are you on a stabnd alone PC or is it in a Windows Domain?

regards

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. No, the Windows UAC doesn't kick in even using the second way you recommended.
Yes, it is a PC at home and I am the only user but for security reasons(Internet) I use two accounts in general that without administration rights.

Hi Nielson,

this is not how it is supposed to work. It is not obvious from what you have shared why this may be the case. My engineers are asking if they can take a look by remote session at this on your PC. If you are interested in doing that please fill out the Indemnity form and set up TeamViewer as per this page:

Once you have TeamViewer ready and have sent us the signed indemnity forms we will arrange a time to connect.

Sincerely
Best regards

:)
If posting files to this forum, you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded.
Thank you.
