A filename with spaces is shown incorrectly

Hi,

I have a problem with the set up of PDF-XChange Viewer Pro version 2.5 (Build 211.0).

If I have a document with spaces in the filename: that filename is shown as a Unicode long filename:
"Dit is een test" is shown as DITISE~1

This is annoying: as that name is also shown in the Recent Files List.

Our HelpDesk can't help me. I hope you can

Hello Aquarius,

Build 211 of the Viewer is rather old. It could also be that the "Title" of the document is the "DITISE~1" string that you see.
Please try our new PDF XChange Editor that replaces the Viewer:

thank you for your quick response.

Yes I know that build 211 is rather old: our HelpDesk is rather conservative.

No: I made an MS-Word document "Dit is een test.docx" turned into a PDF and got the garbled name.
No: the version of the viewer is not the problem: If I do the same on a different computer, and view it in build 211: no problems

Do you need more info?

Hi Will,

Microsoft Word 2010 to make the .docx; the PDF-Xchange Addin (ver 2012) to make the PDF.

Look... this never has been a problem, with the 'rather old' PDF-XCh versions.
But a couple of weeks ago I had to have a new 'profile': very persistend problems with Word.
The 'rather old' versions have been uninstalled and reinstalled. Same problem.

If I send the the PDF to an other (work) PC: no problem.. you see its normal name (without tildes, but with spaces).
If I get a document (with spaces in the name), made by my collegue: problem

This drives me and the HelpDesk crazy.

Hi Aquarius,

Understood - if you are using Build 211 of the Viewer, then would it be safe to assume you are using something like build 265 or 266 of the Add-in/printer? If so, then we will need you to update to the latest build of the software before we can comment further, as this may have been an issue that was addressed in a later build. I realize that once machine is fine and one isn't, but this is actually fairly common for bugs and issues, so you may still find that the update fixes the issue. If the problem does then persist and we can completely eliminate the possibility that this is a version/build specific issue.

I understand your position.

I am at the mercy of our HelpDesk and I am sure they hate to update some 800 PC's because I have a weird problem.
I will beg for Admin rights on this PC

I will come back on this issue when I have recent PDF XCh software.
