Alright, I've like to start by saying that PDF Xchange viewer is hands down the best pdf viewer I have found. I needed a pdf viewer which I wanted to set up very specifically as I wanted and only PDF xchange viewer had all those customizing features. I really thank the developers for making such an amazing software!!!!!
However, I have 2 problems which I just can't find the solution to,
Making the select text tool default while opening any PDF - I personally feel the hand tool is useless since all it allows is scrolling using the left mouse button, which is not the most convenient way to scroll.
The copy as rich content function just doesn't work. There is an option to do so, in the commands section, to which I've set up a hotkey, but it just doesn't work. However, it does work with PDF Xchange editor.
Thanks for the kind words!
The Editor should be just as customizable as the Viewer, if not more, and is the newer product - so I would recommend you to focus on the Editor and see if you can customize it the way you need. Also the Viewer will now officialy not get any new builds - only if some very serious and critical bugs are found - a fix might be released, but for anything else - only the Editor will get updated.
I believe rich text copying was added as a command so that translators could get it included in their translations, while the feature was still worked on, but then we released the Editor and the Viewer never got it. So rich content copying is not possible and will not be in the Viewer.
The Editor should also remember and set as default either of the Hand, Text Select or Snapshot tools - but again this is an Editor only feature.
I found a few things very annoying about the editor.
While I'm reading a book, I prefer to read it in full screen and also do basic editing like highlighting, underlining as well as managing bookmarks and comments.
Whenever I switch to full screen, my select tool automatically changes to hand tool, which has to be changed again and again to select tool each time I enter full screen. Also the zoom level is not maintained, due to which I also have to zoom in each time I enter full screen. While I can use hotkeys for using highlighting in full screen, opening up the bookmarks bar or comments bar (Ctrl+M) in full screen takes me back to normal screen, due to which I have to again enter full screen after I'm done with the bookmarks/comments bar, select the 'select text tool' and zoom in as well.
The issue is that when the Viewer went into fullscreen, the entire application did, not just the current document. This meant that all documents we fullscreened and that each document could be cycled through, still retaining the fullscreen state. This caused several issues and so the implementation was changed, in the Editor, to match that of most other applications; only the current document would enter fullscreen mode. Also, given that the Editor no longer allows for multiple instances, but instead uses multiple frames of the same process, implementing the same behaviour as the Viewer would potentially cause issues, as the entire application would be in fulscreen and so would each frame of that instances.
This is why opening/closing panes will exit fullscreen mode and is also why the current tool is deselected. For now, it can be easily re-enabled with a custom keyboard shortcut, but we plan to implement a customizable toolbar that will allow for users to place their tools directly onto the toolbar, for easy access.
Regarding the panes - certain document specific panes could potentially be allowed, in theory, to open in fullscreen mode, so I've put this to the Dev. Team and they have agreed to look into the implementation of this.
HTH!
