Error [PXVLib]: Unsupported File Format.
I recently updated my Version 7 to Build 323.1 and now any PDF I attempt to open returns the error above. Please advise.

Hello BSchuhle,
Can you please send us one or several of those PDFs so that we can see for ourselves if there is any problem?
Cheers,
Alex

Here are a couple of regular PDFs that produce the error on my system.

Are you opening these files from a local folder or a network location?

They're parked on my Windows 7 Desktop. I'm not on a network.

Hello BSchuhle,
We've been unable to reproduce this issue ourselves, but we also released build 323.2 last night, so can you please try to update to this latest one, and let us know if the problem is still there?
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Error [PXVLib]: Unsupported File Format.
I am also curious if this happens while double clicking a PDF in Windows File Explorer, or via Open in PDF-XChange Editor V7, or in both ?
Note for Tracker Software support: Please update the version number on the download page.

Regards.

Re: Error [PXVLib]: Unsupported File Format.
Thanks for the reply. I have downloaded and installed the new update and the issue remains. It occurs whether double-clicking a PDF in Windows Explorer or attempting to open a file from within the program.

Re: Error [PXVLib]: Unsupported File Format.
For what it's worth, I just tried opening a couple of JPG files from within the new version and got this message: "Error [Operating system]: The system cannot find the path specified."

Re: Error [PXVLib]: Unsupported File Format.
Hello BSchuhle ,
To rule out an issue with the installation - can you please download and try the portable version as well?
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/produc ... fileid=616
Extract the contents of the archive into a folder on your desktop, then launch the Editor exe from that folder, and after that try dragging dropping a file over the portable Editor. If this opens - then the issue will be with the installation of the stand alone Editor on your system.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Error [PXVLib]: Unsupported File Format.
Hi Stefan,
Following your instructions, I was able to open PDF files both from within the program and by drag & drop. The first one (from within the program), a few seconds after opening, threw up a "Runtime Error 217 at 0040900B" message. This did not occur on further file openings.

Thanks for that Bill,
You mentioned that "This did not occur on further file openings." - does that mean all is good now?

Re: Error [PXVLib]: Unsupported File Format.
Only if I use the "portable" version in the folder on my desktop. My main installation still isn't fixed. Do I need to uninstall it, re-download, and re-install?
It really wasn't clear to me what the "portable" version actually referred to. When I followed Stefan's link, it just took me to a download page that said nothing about a portable version and seemed to be downloading the regular program. However when I double-clicked the .exe file in the unzipped desktop folder, rather than starting up an install, it just fired up what appeared to be a trial version of the program which then successfully opened my PDF files.

Re: Error [PXVLib]: Unsupported File Format.
Thanks Bill.
It sounds like you are indeed using the portable.
In order to fix the installed version we would like to take a look at this remotely. If you OK with letting us remote in take a look here and set up TeamViewer.
You can run it or install it. Please contact us at support@pdf-xchange.com and we will arrange a suitable time to connect.

Ivan came online and fixed my installation. I'll let him explain what it was if he cares to. Thank you, Ivan, and everyone, for the quick response and repair!

Re: Error [PXVLib]: Unsupported File Format.
In a nutshell, the problem happened because of Editor's folder for temporary data, that the Editor creates in user's temp folder, had read-only permissions. While I saw already a few cases, I still don't know the reason why it might happen and what causes that permissions changes. We will make some further investigation of this problem.
There is simple workaround for this problem - remove PDFXEdit folder located in user's %tmp% folder.

Ivan -- A very belated "thank you" for that explanation and workaround. Good to know and hopefully will be of use to others who might come across this apparently rare occurrence. Any luck on determining the cause?

No, unfortunately, we were not able to find out under what circumstances Editor's subfolder got wrong permissions. The Editor itself never modify permissions of this folder, it just creates that folder.

OK, thanks for the update. With any luck, it was just a one-off malfunction on the part of my system!

Hello, PJA,
Welcome to our Forum.
May I ask if your PDF Editor is the latest version 10.6.0.396?
Also, please tell me if your files have been encrypted by something, when stored on your USB storage device?
