Export to FDF

Post by kingja »

I see in build 0025 that the export to FDF works...partially that is. I can create an FDF from one of my forms and the fdf will open in Adobe Acrobat. However, it does not open in PDFXchange Viewer. I get an error about "Invalid File Format". This is the only thing from keeping me transferring to PDFXchange Viewer and ditching Adbe Acrobat. Is this a known problem?

Thanks,

Jeff King

Yes, for now PDF-XChange supports only export to PDF, but not import (opening). This feature will be added a bit later.

FDF import

Post by rij »

Is there any advancement on this feature?
I note that it was something to be done - last September, but have not heard anything to state that it is available yet.
Being able to export to FDF is fine but then not being able to load those same FDF files back in seriously affects the value of the product.
Maybe export and import to a different data structure could also be beneficial - e.g. XML.
I appreciate that the form data can be saved within the PDF file but there is (or can be) a significant difference in the file size of a FDF file and a PDF file - also the data is then tied to the same form in which it was entered. Being able to have a form that is presented and filled in by one person and then have that data imported into a different form which gets the data added to by another person, with the data maybe presented in a different way (perhaps additional sensitive data fields) would be a highly useful - I know it would be to me.

Hi,

This is far from forgotten and we are now working towards this - build 36 is scheduled to allow the insertion of new PDF pages in the 'PRO' release and this is a major step towards providing this functionlaity - so it is getting closer - honestly :)
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

It is nice to hear you are active in this area and I, for one, appreciate the work you are doing (or, at least, I should - once it is released).
Good luck wth it.
