Best "lite" PDF Reader for Windows?

Post by clinthulk2 »

I want to get away from Adobe because of security concerns. Nothing fancy, just read and print. Any PDF programs out there that are light on resources but still open quick and allow for printing without watermarks?

Tried:
PDF Exchange - Decent but filled with features I don't need and watermarks printed copies. No browser plugin but would open saved file separately.

Foxit Reader - Had this in the past and it was fine but now it wants to go online every time I open a PDF; even after I disabled automatic updates. Will install crap unless you do a custom installation and "decline" agreements instead of hitting next .

Anything better?

Hi clinthulk2

welcome to the Tracker forums.

Thank you for the compliments on PDF-XChange. We think it's pretty decent too.

Did you know the UI of the Editor is highly customizable? Right click an unused place on a toolbar and select "Customise Toolbars" at the very bottom of the context menu that opens. In there you can drag and drop tools to and from the toolbars, add and remove toolbars and more.

It shouldn't watermark printed pages unless you have used a one of the trial features. Most of the Editor's features are free and wont cause watermarks. Without a license you can even hide the features that do need a license so you don't accidentally use one. We do warn users before using these features.

If you are getting water marks on your printed documents and you have not used a feature that needs a license please let us know and we will look into it.

Browser plugins are not possible in the major browsers these days due to changes in browser architecture and security mechanisms. IE sill functions with plugins.
Best regards
