Redux - Typewriter Tool - Default Width: Manage the Default?

Post by brody-xr3 »

Hi,

Back a while ago I got great help with this question: viewtopic.php?f=62&t=33865

The upshot of the solution was that there was no way to define the width of the text box within the Comment Styles Palette. It starts out fixed and can't be further defined.

You can DRAG any text box wider, no problems there. But, the click and go width is system-fixed.

This got me thinking - where is that INITIAL width defined? And, can I change THAT?

Put another way - the text box HAS a defined width upon click. Sadly, that width is about half the size that would work for my purposes. This width is defined outside the Comment Styles Palette.

But, could I reach THAT variable and set it? Not needing to modify the default width beyond the out-of-the box setting - that is...as long as I can set it myself. :D

Said differently: if the text box HAS a defined width that it uses upon clicking on the page...where is that variable? And, is there any way I could get to it? Surely it is defined somewhere.

Thanks!

Hi, brody-xr3

The typewriter width is not defined during placement, and is permanently dynamic, thus is it not something that can be set initially. There is no need for a typewriter to have a specific width as text reaching the end of it will simply expand the comment in any case.
If you need a predefined width of space, you should instead be using the "text box" tool which can have a specified size, and you are fully able to give it a borderless appearance making it visually indistinguishable from the typewriter, despite the technical differences between the two items.

Hi Daniel,

Ah! Forgive me. My TITLE is wrong. My question IS about the text box.

Should read - Text Box Default Width: Manage the Default?

Using the Text Box, I can't see anyplace where I can define (or redefine) the width it starts out with.

Sincerely,

Brody

Hi, brody-xr3

My apologies, I really need to commit this to memory as this is the second time I have made this mistake. Unfortunately It is not possible to save the size of these text comments. The only way to save a preset size of a text entry box is through the use of "form fields", which are not ideal for commenting.

As such, the best scenario for you at the moment is to manually resize these blocks during placement so that they are your desired dimensions.
