Combined files and wrong bookmarks

Post by petepuma01 »

Hi. I have multiple files with bookmarks that I need to combine into a single PDF. Lets assume the following:

File ABC.pdf
first bookmark is page 1
second bookmark is page 7
third bookmark is page 12

File DEF.pdf
One bookmark, page 1

I combine the files with File > New Document > Combine files. The file gets combined. However, the bookmarks don't get updated. I now have two bookmarks that point to page 1. The bookmark from file DEF.pdf should be at least page 13 or higher (given that file ABC.pdf has a bookmark at page 12).

When you combine multiple pdf into a single pdf, Xchange will mess up the last bookmark of each file; making the last bookmark of each file point to the first cert of the root file. The work around we came up with is to create a bogus last bookmark. Combine files and comb through deleting the bogus bookmark. It's not bad when you only have a handful of files to deal with, but some large accounts have over 200 masters; one file for each master.

Is there a process to correct this? A way to update bookmarks? Any javascript that could be run?

Hi petepuma01,

thanks for the post and report.

We have reproduced the issue here
Combine Pages with Bookmarks.gif

and raised the associated Support Ticket.

While for internal use only, should you quote RT#5314: Bookmarks point to wrong pages after combining files in the Editor then any support staff member can get you a status update.
