64Bit / Multi Core

Post by pdtracker »

I notice that you say that PDF-XChange Lite 4 is for 32/64 bit. I am running it on a 64 bit machine with 8 cores but it does not seem to use more than one. Is this what you would expect? I am going to have to create nearly 10,000 different PDF files and at present they are clocking in at the rate of about 500 per day! They are quite large (on average 50 pages with a lot of graphs etc). I can wait - it is an annual exercise but it would be nice to get it down to less than 200 days! PS: I know the sending program is slow at the moment - so don't worry about my quip about the speed - I am just wondering if I am missing a trick on the actual creation, optimisation and saving of the files. Can they be produced in parallel? Would I be better setting off 10 jobs doing different sets of files? Many thanks. Philip PS: By the way - I am quite impressed it has now been running happily for 24 hours to produce its 500 reports (each 1MB +or- 300k with no problems - good stuff!.

Hi,

PDF-XChange can handle multiple documents in separate threads during the optimization/generation states.

The actual Document workflow is: documents are spooled one-by-one in a single thread, then the spooled document is processed (optimization/generation stages) into a separate thread.

Other documents can be spooled and start to process during this, subsequent documents will be saved in the same order as it was spooled.

So this will speed up the processing - significantly.
