How to Create Reciprocal Links Inside a Single File, Between Two Files?
Hi,
So, lots of Academic papers have superscript linked numbers, click, and you're taken to the corresponding footnote. Click ANOTHER linked number there and...right back you go: Among PDF-X's many tools...how do we do this?
Also, is it possible to designate the links to open different files than the currently-being-read file? So that, I could have superscript 1 in main file open a page in a commentary file? And, vice-versa.
I know I could make two SEPARATE links. Is THAT the right way? Or, is there a unified process for Footnotes which creates the footnote, the destination, and the return link all at the same time?
Sincerely,
SCH

Hi SCH - thanks for the excellent question.
I think unfortunately that the only way is to make 2 discrete links, manually.
I'll ask the devs if there is another, potentially more automated way, but I think not.

I support this request especially between two files. I have been making the reciprocal links as Paul suggests and I haven't figured out a better way.

Hello, PHK
We will see what we can do, but as usual, cannot make any promises for implementation at this time.
Kind regards,

Re: How to Create Reciprocal Links Inside a Single File, Between Two Files?
It has been a while since the last discussion on this subject and I would still like a one-step reciprocal link tool but it has finally occured to me that there is a simple workaround for, at least, toggling back and forth between the two ends of the action if they are both on the same page: keep the Links panel open and click either the "Title" or the "Action" to get to the reciprocal.
And, if the two ends of the link are on different pages but in the same document, there is something similar you can do although it does not work exactly the same way. And that seems to be because once you have gone to the destination of the action, clicking on the Title for the link will do nothing. I don't know why this is the case. But if you click on another Title that is on the same Page as the placed link it will go to that page and then you can click on the Title for the subject Link and it will go to that placement location.

Hello, PHK
I am happy to hear you have a passable option to use now at least. So far there has been little on this, so I cannot offer any promises of a change in the future.
Just one note on your solution, you can click on the page link directly to jump to the page the link exists on, instead of selecting another and then clicking back. Kind regards,

That doesn't exactly work for me. This is because I am often working on wall-sized sheets, or canvasses, of many, many merged 'pages'. Therefore, I need to go to the specific region of the sheet where the Title is located.TrackerSupp-Daniel wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 9:15 pm ... you can click on the page link directly to jump to the page the link exists on, instead of selecting another and then clicking back.

Hello, PHK
Using this link should center the link on the visible area of the page, I think that clicking this should work precisely as you describe needing it to.

Yes, you are right, Daniel.
Clicking on the page number, even if there is only one page in the document, produces the correct view of the sheet.
I had been ignoring the Page column altogether because everything was on one "Page," and I wrongly thought it was irrelevant.
Thank you, Daniel.
