uses 100 MB RAM for a 147kb file ?

Post by andreasm1982 »

If I open small attached file in xchance viewer and scroll up and down whole file, RAM usage grows up to 100 MBytes , virtual memory also to 100 MBytes.

And I believe, that my computer (other programs) gets slower if that memory usage grows.

my memory: 256 MB + 512 MB SDRAM

What can I do that xchance viewer doesn't slow down my computer?

(memory usage is only 15 MB RAM and 10 MB virtual memory in foxitreader 2.2 , and it's not slower than xchange viewer in that file! So high memory usage in xchange veiwer can't be declared as a help for speed ups displaying file)

The ZIP file is empty, but try a search for "Memory." You can limit memory use in Preferences if its causing problems. "Automatic" will use up to 25% of installed memory IIRC.

Hi,

You should find that scrolling through pages etc by using the extra memory IS enhanced by using extra memory etc - certainly is here when the 2 are compared.

Also as Bhikkhu says in PDF-XChange you can the memory allocated for use in PDF-XChange by modifying the preferences.

Looks like with ZIP file trouble was because we are moving to new server. Now I can open it ok.

Okay, I limited memory usage to 10%. Now my computer runs much faster if reading pdf files. It also loads that pdf file faster.

Thanks for that hint!

(But I don't understand if program wastes much memory in standard configuration if it's not faster - in fact it's a little bit slower...)

Hi,

yes initial loading may be faster - but less is loaded into memory - so page scrolling will be slower.

Anyway - good you have the result you wanted :)
