Post by andreasm1982 »

Please allow upload of .pdf and .jpg files into forums. This would save time for reporting errors.
And this wouldn't waste memory on server, because compressing .pdf and .jpg doesn't save space. They are often compressed by itself.

 Yes please, and PNG files, which also don't benefit much from compression.

Vote NO to allowing upload pdf files without compression for two reasons:
1. PDF file may be not compressed or use poor compression. Anyway most PDF files will be compressed, more or less.
2. Without compression there is no file integrity control, so we have no chance to know was PDF file broken originally or not.

We insist all files are zipped for the reasons above and also :

1: If offensive material is uploaded - it is immeadiately served and viewable - a little over a year ago - we had a huge problem with this and it is sure to happen again some time !

2: If content containing malicious code is published as has happened in various formats - including PDF and some image formats it is immeadiatley served

3: Browser page formatting is thrown all over the place if large

4: Multiple files have to be downlaoded individually - rather than in one download

and more ...

so we will continue to require all attachments to be Zipped, RAR'd or 7z archived.
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.
