Locking typwriter entries into forms

Post by Don Schmidt »

I used the typwriter function to fill a form. Can the typed entry be locked into the form so others can't remove or change the entry?

Security options are greyed out.

Hi Don,

No - there is no way at the moment to do this, and it depends on whether you are really using a genuine interactive PDF form - or just using the Typewiter function to type on a PDF that represents a 'printed' style form.

You will be able to add security options in build 2.038 of the PRO Version if all goes to plan (currently as you know we are on Build 2.036).

Soon, in the Viewer PRO version, you will be able to 'flatten' the PDF and convert it to an image based PDF and then this would achieve this - but you would then not be able to extract any form data - maybe not what you want.

Further - in both the Free and PRO version - soon you will be able to export the data from a genuine PDF form to an .FDF file and then re-import this - which would preserve the data in the saved FDF file - but it would still be changeable if re-imported.

Hope that helps

Thanks for th explanation and the options that will safeguard the form content. In my case, I think filling the form, then creating an image file and then saving it to a pdf file would meet the security goal.

Pleasure Don,

Of course you could do this now by exporting to an image file using the Viewer and then using PDF-Tools or PDF-XChange re-convert to PDF.

cheers
