Setting up a foreground/background relationship for multiple backgrounds

Post by rakunavi »

Hello all,

When setting another background to be displayed in the foreground on the same page as a page that already has a background set, simply adding a new background setting does not make the background visible. The new background will appear in the foreground only after you open the settings of the original background you want to display in the background after adding the new background and press the OK button.

Please refer to the verification procedure and the video for details. The corresponding time code is also listed at the beginning of each verification procedure. ([MM:SS] "MM" stands for minutes and "SS" for seconds).

  • CapturedVideo.zip
  • [00:03] Create a blank document of 10 pages.
  • [00:09] Set yellow background color for all pages.
  • [00:17] Set blue background color for odd-numbered pages.
  • [00:27] At this stage, all pages are displayed with the yellow background color, and the blue background color is unvisible.
  • [00:32] If you save the file, close the application, and then reopen the file, the situation will not change.

The file saved at this point is attached with the video as a sample for verification.
  • [00:58] Open the background management dialog and open the setting corresponding to the yellow background color.
  • [01:07] Press the OK button to close the yellow background color dialog, and the changes will be reflected in the thumbnail pane.

In the above example, even immediately after the first odd page setting is added, a blue background is actually added as content, just unvisible because of the yellow background covering the front side. Ideally, however, the blue background should appear in the foreground even after the first operation. <Future Request 1>

Also, if one wants to display the yellow background backward with a lower priority, i.e., the blue background in the foreground with a higher priority, it seems unintuitive to open the yellow background setting and press the OK button. For example, it would be intuitive and easy to understand if the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons could be used to adjust the foreground/background relationship. <Future Request 2>

If background settings are limited to one setting per page, there is no need to consider the order among backgrounds, and Feature Request 1 and Feature Request 2 above become unnecessary. Instead, it would be better if setting another background on a page that already has a background would automatically exclude the page from the original background. In other words, in the example above, adding a blue background to an odd-numbered page would automatically exclude the odd-numbered page from the yellow background. <Future Request 3>

Thank you for taking the time to read this message.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Thanks once again for the detailed report Rakunavi.

We have raised two tickets for this:
1. RT#6221: Feature request :: Editor :: option to re-order backgrounds in the Manage Backgrounds Dialogue
2. RT#6222: Manage Background option applies the background incorrectly.

The former is the response to your requests, the latter about fixing the bug in the background display.

I hope that helps.
Best regards
