hopefully simple feature request with great ease of use payoff.
As I read paper printouts I highlight with multiple color highlighter pens which I switch between frequently. Switching colors in the program currently requires mousing to the color button, clicking, mousing to the desired color, and a subsequent selection click. And again every time a color switch desired, which is a big hassle due to frequency of switching.
I'd like some way to switch back and forth between several highlight colors easily. For example
* keyboard shortcuts to palette of common colors
* adding a palette to the highlight text tool properties so color can be changed between with a single click
Thanks!
keyboard shortcut / one-click for changing highlight color

Please turn on Properties Toolbar (Ctrl + E, or View -> Toolbars -> Properties Toolbar), and when on this toolbar for Highlight tool/comment there is palette.

I don't think this would be easy to do with shortcuts. Customisation may be an option in some later build, but selecting a colour from the palette needs a mouse action.
What might help is to be able to select several comments or highlights on the page or in the Comments panel and modify their properties as a group. This would be very useful for deleting multiple comments too.

I apologize if I wasn't clear. My comments referred to the existing toolbar being insufficient: there is a single color shown in the properties toolbar, and selecting a different color requires multiple clicks, as described in my previous post. I'd be satisfied if the properties toolbar showed multiple colors (say 3-5 static options or most recently used colors) -- then a single click could be used to quickly alternate back and forth between colors.Ivan - Tracker Software wrote:Please turn on Properties Toolbar (Ctrl + E, or View -> Toolbars -> Properties Toolbar), and when on this toolbar for Highlight tool/comment there is palette.

I don't think multiple-select-and-change would address my request since it would mean correcting-after rather than changing-as-you-go, plus it would be hassle to find the different regions to change when they are all highlighted the same color.Bhikkhu Pesala wrote:I don't think this would be easy to do with shortcuts. How about my mulitple-colors-on-the-properties-toolbar suggestions (previous post)?
Regarding keyboard, I'm less concerned with having a *short* sequence to change the color and more concerned about having *some* sequence of keyboard strokes able to accomplish this. In particular, I use speech macros due to RSI, and it's easy to associate a speech command with a series of keyboard strokes, but hard to perform such a binding to mouse actions.
Thanks!

The comments panel lists comments in the order that they were added (other sort options are available too), so selecting the last ten comments that you added and changing their properties would be easy if multiple select was enabled.mlease wrote:I don't think multiple-select-and-change would address my request since it would mean correcting-after rather than changing-as-you-go, plus it would be hassle to find the different regions to change when they are all highlighted the same color.
I tried adding my own shortcuts for the commenting tools in earlier builds (see this thread). It worked OK.

Re: keyboard shortcut / one-click for changing highlight color
I agree. I just discovered this wonderful piece of software and it would be a great addition to be able to switch "highlight color" on the fly, particularly via keyboard. It would be sufficient, in my opinion, to allow us to choose say 2-3 colors that are bound to key-combos so we can quickly switch colors without so much mouse clicking.
Thanks!
