Unpinned Recents is always empty (0)
Hi. For some time now, the list of Unpinned Recents in my pdfxce+ has been empty, and newly opened unpinned files are not added to it, whether they're opened via the Open dialog, double clicking, etc.
I just updated to the latest version 9.5.366, but still the same.
That list used get populated, but at some point everything in it disappeared and nothing new gets added?
I'm not finding a setting in Preference for it. Maybe I'm just not seeing it (though why would I have turned if off?)
Any ideas what might be going on?
Thank you!

HI XChangeGirl
that's an interesting report. I have not seen this before.
The first thing I would do is export my current settings to file so that I can restore them, then I would reset the settings to default and see if the recents list starts populating.
I am keen to hear the results. You export/import/reset settings under File then Manage Settings:

Hi. Thanks for the quick reply!
I just came back to add that when I use the Find box under Recent Files, all the recently opened files, including unpinned ones, DO show up. That's how I've been able to pin new ones. In that past, I would scroll down and pin from the Unpinned list. But that's been empty for a while now.
Interesting that you've never seen this before. I will export my settings and do a reset. Will let you know what I find.

Re: Unpinned Recents is always empty (0)
Ok. I did an export of All. Then did a reset. Newly opened files show up in Unpinned as expected.
Then when I imported All elements of the old setting, and tried opening unpinned files, the Unpinned list still didn't populate -- also as expected, really.
Any ideas?
Is there an element of the import I can disable that would allow the Unpinned to work, but that wouldn't also reset all my pinned docs?
Or should I selectively import the things I've customized?

Hello, XChangeGirl
If resetting fixes the issue, and importing them again restores it to improper functionality, that means the bug is within your settings file itself, which is a good thing for our needs, Could I ask you to send us a copy of the settings export file you have made, so that we can try importing it here?
Note that a settings export may contain items like your stamp collections, if you have any items with sensitive information, you may want to email us instead of posing the file on the public forum. If you do, please send that file to <support@pdf-xchange.com> with a link to this post so we can quickly associate the information.
Kind regards,

I am unable to attach the xces settings file to gmail without the file being "Blocked for security reasons!"
I've tried a direct attachment, placing it in a zip, changing its extension before zipping, etc. Google seems is analyzing the file itself and deeming it verboten.
Interestingly, it also flagged as risky the 9.5.366 update file after I downloaded it, but it let me install it.

Hello XChangeGirl,
Maybe you can share the file with us by uploading it to our file server?
How do I upload a file to the Tracker Software File service?
Please make sure to post back here once the file is uploaded so that Dan can take a look at it for you!
Kind regards,
Stefan

Ok! I just uploaded "2023-01-17, Tue 3-41-56 PM.xces" to the server.
Please let me know what you find out. Maybe you can fix it, so I'd be able to import it with all the existing settings, and also have the Unpinned list work?
Thank you!

Re: Unpinned Recents is always empty (0)
Hello, XChangeGirl
Thank you for that, This file does allow me to reproduce the issue, and I found the cause! I thought it was odd that the imported file showed there were exactly 50 pinned items, and no more, that seems like a strange cutoff point. It turns out, the "show max number of items" is a total between both the pinned and unpinned items. Since the default for this is 50, and you actually have 94 pinned items, the list was still recorded and available, but the editor was refusing to display these items.
To fix this, open the "history and recents options" and change the max number of items to a larger number I used 1000, and now I see this with your import: Kind regards,
