When I handle monochrome images in PDF, I usually set the resolution to 600 dpi and the compression method to CCITT Group 4. At the same time, I often use monochrome images in PNG format. However, I have found that when I use the "From Image File(s)" function to import PNG files of monochrome images generated by certain applications, the compression method options are not properly reflected.
Please refer to the following verification procedure and see attached verification video for more details. The corresponding timecode in the video is also included.
([MM:SS] "MM" shows minutes, and "SS" shows seconds.)
- [00:04] PDF-XCE : Open an appropriate image file with the PDF-XChange Editor.
[00:10] PDF-XCE : "Export to Images(s)" to output a monochrome binary PNG file.
[00:30] Explorer : Rename the file to "PDFXCE.png".
[00:36] MSPaint : Open PDFXCE.png in Microsoft Paint.
[00:40] MSPaint : Converts to monochrome binary.
[00:48] MSPaint : Saves the file in PNG format with the filename "Paint.png".
[00:58] PDF-XCE : Add "Paint.png" and "PDFXCE.png" in the "From Image File(s)" dialog.
[01:05] PDF-XCE : In the "From Image File(s)" options, enable Select Paper Size by Image Size in the New Page Options category. This setting is simply for the sake of visibility and has nothing to do with this verification.
[01:09] PDF-XCE : In the Image Compression category, set the Monochrome Compression method to CCITT Group 4.
[01:22] PDF-XCE : Enable edit mode and check the Compression method in the properties of each page. Page one corresponding to "Paint.png" is set to CCITT Group 4, but page two corresponding to "PDFXCE.png" is set to an unintended ZIP.
Thank you so much for your continued support.
