Hello Forum and Tracker Support,
I am using the portable version of PDF-XChange Editor on my laptop, and would like to add a user interface language.
The languages are available for download here:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/langua ... nge-editor
If I download a [Language].xclpack file there and put it in my C:\Portable Programs\PDF-XChange Editor\Languages folder and restart PDF-XChange Editor, the language is still not offered in the settings.
When double-clicking the file, the following error message appears:
Am I doing something wrong?
Regards
David

Re: Cannot add a UI language to PDF-XChange Editor Portable
Hi,
I seems like there is no immediate information available on "how to install" the additional User Interface Language packs for PDF-XChange Editor. That is a too bad.
However, I just tried myself.
1) For portable installations
- Make sure that PDF-XChange Editor is closed
- Download the desired language pack (from https://www.pdf-xchange.com/langua ... nge-editor)
- Rename the xclpack-extension to zip (for example German.zip)
- Open the ZIP-file (How? : in Windows File Explorer, in the column at the left, open the folder that contains the zip-file. Normally you will discover the zip-file below the folder-name, also in the left column. Now, single-click on the zip-file. You will see the included files in the column at the right)
- Copy all these files to the sub-folder "Languages" of your portable PDF-XChange Editor installation
- Start the portable PDF-XChange Editor and look into File > Preferences > Languages
2) For classic-installations (non-portable)
- Instead of opening the *.xclpack like a document in PDF-XChange Editor, you must rather double-click on that file in Windows File Explorer (make sure that the Editor is closed when you do that).
- Normally, the following installation dialog-box should show-up:
- Click "For the current user only"
- After a few seconds, you will see the message "Installation is complete".
Please let us know if this works for you.
@Tracker support
Is there is a more easy way to add additional language packs for the portable installation ?
Kind regards.
Willy

Re: Cannot add a UI language to PDF-XChange Editor Portable
Hello Willy Van Nuffel, David,
Indeed the .xclpack is a renamed archive that contains the actual language files inside.
The thing with portable is that it can not make file associations, so you can't just double click the file to install the languages as the portable can not take that association.
The process Willy described will work indeed!
I will pass this topic on to the person working on the manuals so that we can make an article on the Portable's languages.
Kind regards,
Stefan

Thank you Willy for explaining the ZIP nature of the .xclpack files, and to Stefan for confirming it.
I will try this asap, and report back about the outcome!
Cheers & Thanks

Re: Cannot add a UI language to PDF-XChange Editor Portable
Hello, everyone!
Glad to hear that this worked. I should also mention while we are on this topic, the Dev team is planning, for the future, to offer an add/update languages" function for app languages, similar to how the same button works for the OCR languages currently. this is something that is in progress and will still take quite some time, so for now, the zip method will be the most reliable for portable users.
