Good day to you all,
I currently have the following difficulty:
I access the same sources with PDF-XChange from 10 workstations. Currently, the PDF-XChange is only used as a viewer. The document is not processed. Now it can happen that 2-3 people access the same file - in the same period of time. Is there a possibility that all persons can open the file without having made a copy manually beforehand?
One possibility could be that the PDF XChange always creates a temporary file as soon as a file is opened and then automatically deletes it again when the file is closed.
Do you have a possibility or another idea?
Thank you in advance
Kind regards
Xmedia

Re: Temporary opening of a file - simultaneous access
Hello Xmedia,
Yes - more than one person should be able to access the same source file (e.g. if that file is stored on a network location), but only the first person will be able to make changes to the file, and the others will see a read only version of the document (as the first user to access the file would have locked it).
Kind regards,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,
Thank you for the explanation.
Is there a way that the PDF XChange Viewer always opens the file in read only mode?
The aim should be that the ADMIN of the file can replace the file with a new version at any time,
even if the file is already opened by a read-only user.

Hi Xmedia,
we actually do have a Feature Request for this already in the system: RT#6390: Feature Request :: Editor :: Open Document in Read Only Mode
I do not have an ETA for delivery at this juncture, but rest assured it is coming!

Another option might be to set the file with security options so that the files can be opened but only editted by a user with a password.
There is much scope for that here.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Hello, PHK
That would at the very least prevent those who do not know the password from trying to make any edits, yes. though, if multiple people who know the password all open it up for editing without checking they could still run into issues when saving.
Kind regards,
