To make a document uneditable

Post by ItsMe »

Hello all,
how can I use PDF-XChange Editor V7 to make a document uneditable without encrypting it?
I need the document as if it had been scanned.
Many greetings

You could establish your own security measures under the file Document Properties.

Thanks PHK,

I think ItsMe wanted to avoid encryption and the security added there does apply encryption. I am interested in knowing what the desired outcome is. A digital signature can be used to prevent changes and also show what changes, if any, were made, but it again involves encryption.

Are you perhaps looking for something like the "Rasterize Pages" tool on the "Convert" tab?

It can take a PDF and make it an image just like you had printed it and scanned without OCR. ItsMe, does that give you what you seek?

Thank you PHK and Paul,

Example 1: You can scan documents with PDF-XChange Editor V7 and create a multi-page Example_1.pdf. The Example_1.pdf contains only graphics.
Example 2: From a MSWord document you can create a multi-page Example_2.pdf with the PDF-XChange Lite printer. The Example_2.pdf contains editable objects e.g. text, images, tables.

I want to create Example_1.pdf from Example_2.pdf

My PDF-XChange Editor V7 does not include Recompress Images and Rasterize Pages.

Hello, ItsMe

Thank you for confirming that. In this case, the only real option for you is to upgrade to the latest version, to gain access to these features, so that you can rasterize the page and turn your example2 PDF's into Example1 PDF files.
Note that this does not entirely prevent editing, it simply makes it so that do edit a file, someone needs to use an external image editor, and then modify the document as the image it now is.

I have not actually installed and tested PDF-XChange Editor V7, but if you enable the "Print As Image" option in the Print dialog and print the PDF (Example_2.pdf) file again with the PDF-XChange Lite printer, you might be able to get what you want. The online manual for PDF-XChange Editor V6 shows that the Print As Image option exists in the same location as in the current version, so it should be present in any build of PDF-XChange Editor V7.

Sorry if my comment is off the mark.

Hello, rakunavi

That would indeed also work, I am hesitant to suggesting printing a PDF to PDF, as it can cause damage to the files, but that would, be another potential workaround.

Hi Daniel,

Having received your comments the other day (viewtopic.php?t=39675), I was able to read between the lines the mood with confidence this time. ;)

I simply needed to put out a disclaimer that there is a reason these options are locked.
When rasterization of pages was mentioned as an option, I thought there was no need to worry about document damage.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Hi rakunavi

Thank you for your simple solution suggestion.
The "Print as image" option in the "Print" dialog box produces exactly what I wanted.

Best regards
