Hello all,

In PDF-XChange Editor Ver 10.0.0 build 370, it is now possible to change the text-to-speech engine, but after changing the engine, the icons in the ribbon UI are displayed abnormally.

This does not happen in the Classic UI. It occurs in the Japanese Windows and not in the English Windows. It also does not occur when an English language pack is added to Japanese Windows. I have confirmed this on multiple machines, so the issue is highly reproducible. I have confirmed that the issue also occurs in Chinese (Traditional) as well as Japanese, but I have not investigated the issue in other languages. This issue occurs even in an environment where Japanese language is added to the original English version of Windows 10 by using a language pack afterwards. Therefore, developers should be able to reproduce the issue by setting the Japanese language as an additional Windows language. See the video for more details.

Here the issue occurs in both Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Upon further investigation, I have confirmed that in some cases the issue occurs even after adding a language pack and setting the language to English. These are the items marked with (*) in the list below. Therefore, changing the language of Windows by adding a language pack may not necessarily be related to the conditions under which this issue occurs.

Hi Vasyl,

To confirm this issue, Japanese must be selected as the language for speech recognition when you open Speech Recognition from Windows Settings.

When you installed the Japanese language pack, did you also install Text-to-speech? It should be checked by default in the installation dialog, but if you unchecked it and installed just the language pack itself, the problem should not occur. Even if you have installed the text-to-speech engine, it may not appear in the speech recognition settings immediately after installation. In that case, sign out and then sign in to ensure that the settings are properly reflected.

The screen of Windows 10 is shown below for reference, although it is slightly different from Windows 11.

Hello all,

I have found that even in situations where the issue reported at the beginning of the topic occurs, disabling both "Use default volume" and "Use default speech rate" options in the Speech Options dialog will not cause the issue. Both volume and speech rate can be set in the adjustment bar on the Ribbon UI, so this may be causing some kind of conflict.
