Delete (the selection) fails when selection is pages in Content

In Content I select pages then do:

but no pages are deleted.

Please fix!

Workaround: use Delete Pages and faff with page numbers.

When you perform this operation in the contents pane - this will delete the content on those pages as intended, and not the whole pages themselves:

If you need to remove the whole pages please use the Thumbnails pane.

I asked the development team about this and was told that this is the intended behaviour. The "Content" pane is not intended for page operations, only the content on the page.

You will need to use the Thumbs Pane to delete pages, the content pane functionality will not be changed in this respect.

No-one expects a command "Delete the selection" not to delete the selection.

The Title of the pane is "content", and the action you are performing is in relation to the "content" of each page. Clicking on a page within the content pane, selects the content on that page, and in line with the rest of the UI in this area, the delete function only deletes the "content" of these pages. This is intended, and yes, the Dev team did get the full report, in-fact they directly read this thread.

This will not be changing at this time.

You mean that the tooltip "Delete the selection" that accompanies the Delete-icon in the Content-pane is not correct.

Indeed, it does not delete the selection (read "the selected pages"), but only the content of these pages.

Maybe you could ask the developers if there is a way to change the concerning tooltip, but myself I doubt about it, because the Delete-function to delete content is probably the same one as the Delete-function to delete pages?

I suspect it has it's own Tool Tip. Yes, I will ask if it can be changed it to say "Delete contents from page(s)" or similar.

The problem there is that fails to accord with the UI. The UI says Delete operates on the the selection, not the "content of each page".

The point of UI labelling is to advertise affordance and thereby reduce user effort and frustration. The above fail simply increases both.

This will not be changing at this time

Perhaps at the time the designer gets to think again on the rationale here.

It is more than an icon's tooltip. It is the command's description.

We do hear you - and there is already a request with the devs to improve the tooltip. This will also affect the quick launch auto populated drop down - so it would be clearer that this Delete is for the content on the pages, and not for the pages as well!
