PrtSc key - snipping tool

Post by Evaneaston »

New licensed user here exploring capabilities.

I use the Windows-provided Snipping Tool a lot. I've configured it to trigger with the PrtSc button. When I'm in PDF-Xchange Editor Plus, nothing happens when I press PrtSc. So I have to use the built-in Snapshot tool to select contents from one PDF an paste them into another.

I can't find what command is bound to PrtSc or what is disability PrtSc withing PDF-Xchange Editor. Any ideas on what I can do to allow triggering of the windows Snipping within Pdf-Xchange.

I know I can use Windows+Shift+S to trigger it, but I'm setting this up for someone who's not great at remembering tons of hot keys.

Hello Evaneaston,

Which version of windows is it?
As on Win 11 for me both Shift + Win + S, and the "PrintScreen" button on my keyboard seem to trigger the same Windows screen capture feature. The Snapshot tool would make a raster image copy of content inside your PDF file, and you can use the snapshot area to e.g. OCR just a region of the file, as well as to paste that raster content elsewhere (including outside of the Editor).

Kind regards,
Stefan

This is on Windows 11 with the latest version of PDF-Xchange.

If I do something to cause focus to exit the app, then the Print screen ket works as expected. If I focus back on PDF-Xchange it stops working as expected.

I'll do a screen recording later tonight. I'm curious if there is a key bindings editor that I'm to dense to find.

Hello, Evaneaston

The only functions to disable screenshots from external apps we offer would be ones pertaining to fileopen/azureRMS security methods, which request that the application disallow screenshots/screensharing. If that is present however, our own "snapshot tool" should also be disabled, so based on your description I cannot say that it a likely culprit. There must be a third party app you are using, perhaps an overlay or some such, which is absorbing the keypress, as these should pass straight through our software and be handled by windows. Nothing by default would interact with the Print Screen key on its own.

I've tried to reproduce the issue and simply cannot.
