Group comments by creation date (or modification date) not working properly anymore

Hello Forum and Tracker Support Team,

after some recent major changes to the Comments Pane (since the search function was added, I believe) it is no longer possible to sort comments properly by creation or modification date, see screenshot:

The green comments should all be sorted together as they have the same creation date (and the same modification date).
However, instead, other comments are sorted incorrectly in between the green comments.

It would be great if this could be fixed.

Were those added by a script? Maybe if their time stamp is exactly the same - they could indeed be ordered slightly differently at different times. Can you share one such sample file with us so that we can take a look?

Perhaps this might be related to the issue reported in this topic.

• Since build 384, when comments are grouped by date in Comments pane, items are listed in page order within each date

If so, the test build EditorTestOSK2 available in this post has already been improved. Therefore, it will also be improved in build 387, which should be released shortly.

That does indeed seem to be directly related, and should be fixed in build 387 which should be releasing later tonight, or early tomorrow.

Thanks for your helpful remarks. I can confirm that the intermediate version from the other thread linked by rakunavi resolves the issue described in my original post. Thanks for having fixed this already!

On a related note, it seems that the option "Show/Hide Comment Text" has been removed recently. Was that intentional?

In my opinion, it is very useful to be able to hide the comment text in the Comments Pane. For example, I have many documents with thousands or tens of thousands of comments, a considerable part of which contain text, sometimes a lot of text. Because of all the text, it then can become very difficult to stay oriented in the Comments Pane.

I would therefore recommend that the option to hide comment text in the comments section be reintroduced.

Yes it was removed, the "hide enter text placeholders" and "display compact items" options were added in to replace it with the comments pane rework.
I wholeheartedly agree however that these options server different purposes, and will bring the topic up once again with our UI team, to see if they will reconsider and add it back in.
