No image in clipboard after snapshot sound

Post by rfriedman »

After using the snapshot tool and seeing the selection on original document and hearing the snapshot sound, there is nothing to paste when I try Excel, Word and Paint.net

Does this happen on all PDF files or only one one? Does it happen on every page, or only on one?

It may not be possible to reproduce the bug without the document.

Which version are you using on which OS?

I managed to reproduce this by setting the Snapshot resolution to 600 and clicking on the page to grab the entire A4 page. Although the snapshot sound is played, nothing is copied to the clipboard.

When I tried at 2400 dpi, I had to terminate PDF-XChange Viewer after a minute or two — it would probably take hours to process such a large image. It would be 19,840 x 28,064 pixels, and take more memory than any average PC. Some PDF files are bigger than A4 too.

Try changing the dpi to something sensible like 300 dpi in Preferences, Snapshot tool, and it should work again OK. Otherwise, use high resolution to snap only small areas of the page.

IMO, there should be some checks made here to see if enough memory is going to be available before starting to process the snapshot.

Using 300 dpi doesn't work. How much free RAM do you recommend and is virtual OK?

I don't know if free RAM is the issue here. I can export an A4 page as 600 dpi PNG full colour image (not using the snapshot tool) and the image takes 99.59 MB (104,426,184 Bytes in memory, which should not be a problem on most systems as far as free RAM is concerned.

Try using the snapshot tool on the Pan and Zoom window. Using that method I was able to capture the entire page at 600 dpi, though at 1200 dpi that also failed.

Try capturing the entire page at 200 dpi and let us know your results, and also let us know your page size, and the amount of free RAM available. It may help Tracker Support to resolve this problem.
