virus warning and error message when installing

when running the install file I get the following messages:

1.
"Internal Error: failed to get version numbers of: _shfoldr.dll"

2.
ZoneAlarm:
"not-a-virus: Monitor.win32.smartkeystroke.b"

I can choose to ignore the second message, but it is probably the first message that makes the installer quit.

What version of Vista do you have (home or...)?
What kind of antivirus programme do you have?

Vista: Home Premium + SP1
AV: ZoneAlarm

In the ZoneAlarm dialogue I can choose to ignore the virus warning (which I did), so this is won't be the problem. It is the other issue that seems to halt the installation.

By the way: I had (and still have) build 36 installed. This installed without any problem, maybe 2 months ago(?). I tried to re-run the install program in order to input the registration key (as I read somewhere this was a possibility), but now got exactly the same messages. This seems to suggest that I should first un-install the previous version, but if I would do this and this would not solve the problem, I would end up without any version of PDF-XChange Viewer...

Wim, our developers will try to find out the cause and fix it as soon as possible. Use the old version meanwhile.
You cannot input the registration key in build 36. Pro Version is available only beginning with build 37. Maybe you should try the last portable version (doesn't need installation).

What version of ZoneAlarm do you have?

I will try the mobile version of XChange.

what I find remarkable is that the free version installed without any message or error some months ago, whereas a re-install of that build gives the problems mentioned. Usually I install Vista updates, so this might have to do with it?

The guys have tried to install XChange with the same version of ZoneAlarm you have and there were no problems with the installation. Here what you can do:

First of all, try to install the latest version of PDF XChange 2.0039 RC2.

If it won't work, send us zipped installation file (.exe). The guys will check if it's ok.

Finally, if nothing helps you can uninstall ZoneAlarm and then install PDF XChange without it.

I un-installed the version I had and installed 2.0.39 RC2. No problems this time !!

Maybe you need to un-install previous versions before installing a new one?

Before I tried this, I switched off ZoneAlarm, but the problem remained, so it was not ZoneAlarm.

Maybe the file I had was just corrupt?

Anyways, thanks a heap for putting so much effort in solving this problem !! It confirms it was a good decision to buy the pro version !
